Yahoo Inc. (YHOO) announced that they are shutting down GeoCities, a service that provided people with a free web site, along with all the tools needed to build that site. Yahoo had acquired GeoCities, for more than $4 billion 10 years ago, during the 1999 gold rush of the dot com boom.
Selling stuff online always involves some level of risk. There are steps to take which can help minimize those risks, but individuals seeking to unfairly profit are constantly applying new methods to old techniques, in hopes of defrauding people out of their items and money. Having operated a popular chiropractic classified advertising web site for more than 10 years, we’ve seen our fair share of those attempting to defraud people when items are for sale. Fortunately, the user community has grown more knowledgeable, developing an increased level of awareness, for what is potentially fraudulent activity, or an online cyber scam. The cyber neighborhood watch group has done an impressive job in rooting out the worms and bad apples.

Palmer College of Chiropractic’s Department of Undergraduate Studies announces that the Associate of Science in Chiropractic Technology (ASCT) degree program has been recognized as meeting new Iowa physiotherapy legislative requirements. Per the Iowa Board of Chiropractic state requirement 645-43.12(2), effective July 1, 2009, chiropractic assistants are required to show proof of completion of requirements in training of active and passive physiotherapy.
It’s Marathon Monday in Boston. This morning, twenty five thousand runners took to the streets of Hopkinton, on a marathon course that ran through Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton, and Brighton, on a 26.2 mile route into Boston, with a finish line in Copley Square. Hundreds of thousands of cheering fans lined the streets as 2009 Boston Marathon participants passed by, making their way downhill and uphill (rinsed and repeated), through neighborhoods and business districts, enduring Heartbreak Hill, and relying on both internal and external motivation, as they reached the homestretch, and finally the finish.
The 113th Boston Marathon takes place Monday, April 20, 2009. So all of a sudden Twitter is everywhere. Not really, but with Oprah now on Twitter and Ashton Kutcher battling CNN for followers, it seems as though it’s only a matter of time before my parents appear with accounts of their own. Would a tax on sugary soft drinks result in improved health benefits for the people of New York? According to an article in the New England Journal of Medicine, the answer may be yes. According to New York City Health Commissioner Thomas Friedan and Kelly Brownell, director of the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity and a professor at Yale University, a sugar tax would result in health benefits no matter how revenue from the taxing of soft drinks would be spent.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in Mexico City Wednesday stating that an “insatiable” appetite in the United States for illegal drugs is to blame for much of the violence that has ravaged Mexico in the past year. What is it that people are chattering regarding chiropractic care? Ever wonder what’s going on in the stream of various Internet conversations? I like to take a peak now and then to get a glimpse of what’s being said as people go about their daily activities. If you’re expecting text messaging like: OMG my chiro taught me about TONE. 1895 so ROX! or: SubLuxAtion Removal Time :O off to DC you may be disappointed. The local chiropractor may not be in your Fav 5 (they should be!) but that thing often referred to as a spinal adjustment (not by patients) is certainly a topic of conversation.
At Planet Chiropractic we receive questions about attending chiropractic colleges on a regular basis. I don’t always have the answers or the time to reply to all emails received but I’m working on putting a few aside to answer here, so that others can hopefully get answers to similar questions. The latest comes from a pre-medical student with concerns about chemistry classes.
Some chiropractors remember the days when the only choices in advertising office equipment for sale was to fill out a form in the back of a chiropractic journal. They’d wait for the next issue to come out (sometimes only quarterly) and hope their items sold. Then the magazines came and filled chiropractic mailboxes with reams of paper mailings, followed by endless faxes promising financial freedom by using latest the gadgets. Now those toxic assets clutter office storage areas and the luxury car purchases have been put on hold.

A crowd of over 8,000 runners, walkers and cyclists will hit the streets of Pasadena, California, Sunday morning to compete in the 2009 inaugural Pasadena marathon, half marathon, bike tour, 5K and fun run/walk. The 26.2 mile full marathon and 13.1 mile half marathon will begin at 6:30 a.m. in Pasadena, CA. Weather forecasts show a 70% chance of precipitation and possible thunderstorms, but race events will continue rain or shine.
The United States Postal Service is offering nearly a quarter of its workforce early retirement and is cutting more than 3000 jobs in an effort to slash operation costs in the currently declining US economy. The USPS is expected to close six district offices that provide administrative functions, affecting more than 500 employees that work in those departments.
