2009 Super Bowl 43 – Superbowl Schedule and Guide

By Daria Belov

UPDATE: Check the Superbowl XLVI Schedule and Guide for details on Super Bowl 2012 between the New York Giants and New England Patriots.

Super Bowl 43 (XLIII) kickoff is tomorrow in Tampa Bay, Florida. The Pittsburgh Steelers will be taking on the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL championship game which is likely to be the most watched televised broadcast of the year. With a global audience of One Billion and TV broadcasts upwards of 230 countries and territories across the planet (in 34 different languages), one could say the Super Bowl has Super Reach. That’s no secret to anyone, especially advertisers, who are spending between $2.4 million and $3 million per 30-second commercial spot. I’ve put together a guide featuring 7 frequently search topics related to Super Bowl XLIII. Hope you find it useful.

Chiropractors Wife Candice Michelle Featured in 4 Super Bowl Ads(photo: chiropractors wife Candice Michelle stared in one of the most popular Super Bowl commercials ever shown)

In preparation for the big game America is out buying new flatscreen LCD TVs, shopping for food and beverages, cooking up Super Bowl recipes, and making plans to be with friends and family. Thousands have traveled to Tampa Bay to be there live and thousands more have traveled to Las Vegas to enjoy the festivities in a gambling environment, where one can bet on everything from will the coin toss be heads or tails? to who will win the Super Bowl?.

I did some research to find answers to potential questions like when does the superbowl start, what’s the spread, what colors do the teams wear, what commercials are airing, what channel is the Super Bowl on, and how old is Bruce Springsteen. It’s my personal Super Bowl XLIII guide, hope you enjoy it!

Superbowl Schedule
The Superbowl start time or the official Super Bowl Kick Off is at 6:18 pm Eastern time, but you may want to be in front of the TV by 6 p.m. Eastern time. Superbowl XLIII is televised on NBC and NBC high-definition (HD). The game is broadcast in over 230 countries & territories in 34 languages so it’s best to check locally for broadcast information if you’re not in the United States. Also check NBC Sports for more coverage. Those not watching television can listen to Super Bowl XLIII on more than 100 radio stations. Westwood One is covering radio broadcasts. Use the Westwood One Station Finder to find a local Super Bowl 43 radio station.

Super Bowl XLIII Location
This years NFL national championship takes place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida (home stadium of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers). If for some reason you needed a map (maybe you’re going to the game), the stadium is located at 4201 N Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, FL. Here’s a Raymond James Stadium map link from Google.

Super Bowl Spread
Odds on who’s going to win the 2009 Super Bowl is really the area of pro football handicappers and sports betting experts. From brief searches I conducted it appears the Pittsburgh Steelers are the favorite team (President Barack Obama has picked Pittsburgh to win) over the underdog Arizona Cardinals. The Super Bowl point spread ranges from 6.5 to 7 points depending on where one places their bets. Nearly all sites I checked showing Arizona Vs Pittsburgh Betting Odds, listed the point spread at 6 1/2. In Super Bowl Odds language that’s Steelers -6.5 or Cardinals +6.5.

Super Bowl Recipes
Guacamole recipes (made from avocados), super bowl snacks (like nachos and cheese dip), and even heart friendly alternatives (healthy super bowl recipes), are posted on a gazillion sites. There is no doubt though, this years SuperBowl recipe MVP (most volume of pork) award goes to Bacon Explosion, a colossal meat lovers delight. Besides cooking up the bacon belly bomb from Kansas City, check out Food Network for an Ultimate Guacamole dip recipe. Frank’s Red Hot features a number of recipes for appetizers, snacks, and meals like Buffalo chicken wings, spicy hot burgers, and even zesty shrimp dip. For those seeking healthy recipes, check out the Super Bowl menu on

Bruce Springsteen Halftime Show
This years Super Bowl 43 Halftime Show features Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in a 12 minute rock ‘n roll musical performance. Springsteen (aka The Boss) is expected to play between 3 and 4 songs, none of which have yet been announced. How old is Bruce Springsteen? He was born on September 23, 1949, which makes him 59 years old and still rocking hard. The halftime show is sponsored and is officially known as the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLIII Halftime Show.

Super Bowl Commercials
It’s an advertiser’s dream as this is the one televised event of the year that people actually tune in for to watch the commercials. It’s an uber-expensive advertising extravaganza with 67 spots ranging between $2.4 million and $3 million per 30-second commercial slot. Among the advertisers are Bud Light w/Conan O’Brien, Heineken w/John Turturro, Audi w/Jason Statham, GoDaddy w/Danica Patrick, H&R Block w/Abe Vigoda, and Coke Zero w/Troy Polamalu. SoBe Life Water is running a 60-second commercial and 3-D (get SoBe 3-D glasses here). Fandemonium is sure to become a popular search term after commercial spots for jobs and careers air in Super Bowl XLIII. Career Builder has shown funny ads with monkeys in Superbowl 41, Superbowl 42, and others. Check out their online TV Spots.

Super Bowl Colors
For those of you looking to color coordinate your Super Bowl parties, it’s important to know team uniform colors. Believe it or not, not everyone knows that the Pittsburgh Steelers colors are black and gold. One Monroeville Chiropractor (a Pittsburgh Steelers fanatic) says that fans even bleed Black & Gold. The Arizona Cardinals team uniform colors are red and white.

Super Bowl on Twitter
Not everyone will be watching the Super Bowl on television, and even for those that are, there will be thousands tweeting everything from their favorite Super Bowl commercials to bad calls by referees to people complaining about everyone else watching the Super Bowl. Use the Super Bowl OR Superbowl feature on Twitter Search to follow the online frenzy. Trust me, during game time, the results on that link are going to be a blur of updates. You can follow @chiropractic for updates from Planet Chiropractic founder Michael Dorausch.

Anybody remember who won the Super Bowl 25 years ago? It was a historic event, with Apple Computers 1984 Macintosh commercial (you can see it here) airing for the first time. If you guessed the Raiders you are correct. It was Super Bowl XVIII on January 22, 1984 and the Los Angeles Raiders dominated the Washington Redskins in a 38-9 win at Tampa Stadium in Tampa Bay. The Washington Redskins were the favorite team and the defeat went down in history as Black Sunday.

Will it be a Black and Gold Sunday or Red and White Sunday? We will all have to watch and find out. Enjoy the game and thanks for visiting! @ 2:23 pm | Article ID: 1233440652

Bacon Explosion Top 2009 Superbowl Recipe

By Michael Dorausch, D.C.

An estimated 7.5 million parties take place on Super Bowl Sunday with some 44 million party-goers. If you’re going to be home or entertaining for Superbowl 43 it’s time to plan your big game recipes. You don’t want to be focusing on what you’re going to eat when the Bruce Springsteen halftime show begins. This year, the 2009 Superbowl recipe to top all superbowl recipes includes bacon, lots and lots of bacon. If you ask me, no real Superbowl party should be without it.

Bacon Explosion - Ultimate Barbecue Decadence(photo: Bacon Explosion — 2 pounds thick cut bacon + 2 pounds Italian sausage = a whole lot of yummy!)

You may have already heard of the massive torpedo shaped pork concoction created by Kansas City barbecue addicts Jason Day and Aaron Chronister. Since their BBQ Sausage Recipe of all Recipes went online on December 23, it’s been featured in the New York Times, on the homepage of Yahoo, the homepage of Digg, CNN, and several major news networks.

The Bacon Explosion is already all the rage for this weekend’s Superbowl and it won’t take much to add this ginormous crowd pleaser to your Sunday recipe lineup. Besides a barbecue or oven, here’s what you’ll basically need…

2 pounds thick cut bacon
2 pounds Italian sausage
1 jar of your favorite barbeque sauce
1 jar of your favorite barbeque rub

The preparation is incredible, with strips of bacon first woven together, and then seasoned and covered with a layer of sausage meat. There’s more covering with a crunchy layer of cooked bacon, and a rolling of the whole concoction that can be cooked in a smoker, on a barbecue, or in the oven.

The Bacon Explosion blog has detailed photos and instructions for preparation. Check it out. Take photos if you make your own, and e-mail them to their website, as you may get featured in a future blog post.

What else is on the menu for Superbowl Sunday besides obviously lots of beer? The Sunday standards like hot dogs, hamburgers, chips & guacamole, and spicy hot buffalo chicken wings are all good choices. If you’re not planning on cooking and prefer to order in you may want to dial or order online in advance. Pizza delivery companies like Papa John’s are offering big-game specials like a a $25 XL one topping pizza special that includes 20 wings tossed in your choice of three sauces (like honey chipotle). The Domino’s pizza website features information about ordering early for Sunday’s Super Bowl parties. I wouldn’t wait until kickoff for ordering pizza or any other food delivery for that matter. It’s one of their busiest days of the year.

Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa Bay Florida between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals begins on Sunday, February 1, 2009. The 2009 Superbowl Kick Off Time is scheduled for 6:18 pm Eastern (That’s 3:18 p.m. for those of you on the West Coast) and will be televised on NBC and NBC HD. There should already be plenty of decadent football friendly foods prepared to get you and your guests through past the fourth quarter, so get shopping on Saturday or early Sunday morning. You’ll have plenty of time Sunday afternoon to barbecue up all your Super Bowl favorites including the 2009 Bacon Explosion.

No doubt you’ll be needing a visit to your chiropractor Monday morning, so may as well take care of that appointment now. Tell them the folks at say hello. @ 12:01 am | Article ID: 1233302523

With the upcoming Super Bowl Sunday only days away, we thought we’d bring some excitement to today’s classified advertising summary with a head-to-head feature on advertisements placed for products and services in Pennsylvania versus those in the state of Arizona. Monroeville Chiropractor Records 2009 Pittsburgh Steelers Song

By Daria Belov

It’s said that true Pittsburgh Steelers fans bleed Black & Gold and Chiropractor Robert Fishman is one of those diehard Steelers fans. Not only does he provide chiropractic care to former players from the Pittsburgh Steelers, he’s recorded a Steelers music video that’s become a popular local hit. It’s even been featured on local news channels like CBS Channel 2 KDKA.

Russell Stuvaints - Pittsburgh Steelers - Superbowl XL(photo: screenshot from music video of former Steelers defensive back and special-teams player Russell Stuvaints sporting his Super Bowl ring)

This chiropractor appears no crazier than most spine adjusting football fans, with a diehard love for his favorite NFL team. The music video is titled ‘Bleed Black & Gold’ and it was created by Dr. Fishman and his longtime friend Lou Franconi. They call themselves the “basement brothers” and it looks like that’s where their music video editing gets done.

A news clip from Channel 2 News in Pennsylvania shows an interview with Dr. Rob Fishman and clips from his music video. It turns out the basement brothers have been creating Pittsburgh Steelers songs for years now, according to the news report.

Pittsburgh is a football crazed town and Dr. Fishman shares his fanaticism in a unique and creative way. The Pennsylvania chiropractor gets down and dirty with the nitty-gritty about the city that so loves their pro football team. Even chiropractors can have addictions, and Dr. Fishman’s is certainly the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Not only does the spinal alignment specialist play guitar and sing lead vocals in the video, his staff makes an appearance as well. Also in the video wearing his ring from Superbowl XL is former Pittsburgh Steeler Russell Stuvaints. The former defensive back is a patient of Dr. Fishman’s and he asked to be in the video (it adds a great touch).

Fishman may need a chiropractor of his own, in the video you can see him fall over an adjusting table, which he tells news reporters he later developed tendinitis from. Any work for stunt chiropractors in the Pittsburgh area?

The song takes a jab at the Cleveland Browns (true to any Black and Gold bleeding Steelers fan) but the essence is to pay tribute to diehard Steelers fans everywhere.

For those of you in the area, here’s a list of Pennsylvania chiropractors that may be near you. Go see Dr. Fishman for a chiropractic adjustment, and if you’re a fan of the Cleveland Browns (or any other NFL team besides the Steelers for that matter), it’s probably better not to mention it. 🙂 @ 12:55 pm | Article ID: 1233176146

Windows 7 Beta on Dedicated Test Computer

By Michael Dorausch, D.C.

If you are a geeky computer nerd you have probably already heard about the pre-release version of the next Windows operating system, Windows 7 Beta. Microsoft is allowing IT professionals, developers, small-business owners, and consumers to download the pre-release Windows 7 for use on a dedicated test computer. The customer preview program for Windows 7 Beta will end soon though, so download and activate the operating system as soon as you get a chance, or you may miss out on the testing phase experience.

Windows 7 Beta - Dual Monitor Setup(photo: Windows 7 Beta running dual monitors and beautiful graphics)

One of the biggest potentials that I see for small businesses like chiropractic offices is the use of Windows 7 as a media center. Nearly all chiropractic businesses (and the majority of other small businesses for that matter) continue to run some form of Windows operating system as their primary OS in the office. While programs like scheduling software, Microsoft Word and Excel, and customized business application software, are popular for small businesses, the potential for running a robust media campaign throughout one’s office is a reality with an OS like Windows 7.

For those doing beta testing, there are some basic technical skills required. Computer users should know how to burn ISO files, perform an install of Windows, do backups and restores on a PC, set up a network, and know how to navigate potential hardware and software glitches.

With a focus on showing media in a chiropractor’s office, I set up a fairly heavy duty PC dedicated to testing Windows 7 beta. Intel Pentium dual core, with 6 GB of RAM, a 10,000 rpm WD raptor hard drive, a GeForce 9800 graphics card with dual display output (soon to be doubled to two graphics cards w/4 screen output). In my experience, the install went without a hitch. I did some tweaking to the bios for my particular tastes, but other than that not many changes were made to the standard set up.

I installed the latest version of Picasa 3 from Google, my favorite application for sharing photos and slideshows. During my testing I’ve been running slideshows, while simultaneously playing DVDs, streaming video from online, and playing MP3 audio files. I wouldn’t necessarily run the system like this in a real-world setting, but my intention for this operating system is to be able to output graphics, AVI files, DVDs, MP3 audio, photos, and other forms of digital media, to any and all of the four LCD displays in my office. So far things are looking great.

There’s a short window for testing though as Windows 7 Beta will stop working on August 1, 2009. According to Microsoft, beta testers will not be able to upgrade from the beta version to the final retail version of Windows 7. So don’t plan on relying on your beta install for too long.

Visit the Microsoft website to get details on downloading Windows 7 Beta, along with instructions on what you may need to do before the install. I’ll continue running a test computer up until August, and will post progress reports on use as an office media system to the chiropractic blogs. @ 10:18 am | Article ID: 1233080304

Bag of Bones Anatomical Plastic Chiropractic Keychains

By Michael Dorausch, D.C.

I had three different chiropractors call me (actually they called my staff and I haven’t called them back) during the past week regarding ordering plastic spine keychains ( <–see the ones we use for ADIO chiropractic here) for chiropractic offices. There were some chiropractors that had called me the week before that as well, so I figure they must be looking for these custom-made keychains online, and not finding the information for ordering.

I believe there are several companies making the custom molded plastic keychains but I did find the information for the company that I ordered my keychains from. The company is Anatomical Models International and they’ve  moved recently. Their address is: 15 Hargrove Lane, Suite 1-D, Palm Coast, Fl 32137. You can call them toll-free at 877-208-9372.

They sent me a flyer around the holidays, but I have not yet put in my order for 2009. I scanned the price sheet they sent me even though the rates listed say they are intended specifically for existing customers. I’m sure if you call them and mentioned seeing their information on they’d be willing to give you some kind of special. Personally, I would put the name of your office and your phone number (or maybe your web site and your phone number) and order a large quantity. Plan on ordering at least 500 and see what kind of rate it would give you one 1000. Our last order of keychains went quickly and patients really enjoyed them.

Use the image from above to get address information, phone information, and an idea of your best scenario price sheet. They have different styles of printing available. On a brochure I received for personalized spine key tags they showed three different images. I like promoting companies that create good products and offer good services to chiropractors so I posted a PDF copy of the brochure here. Download it if you want more information or just call the number above for a sales representative.

Again, the style of keychain I used in my office can be seen here.

Chiropractic Yellow Pages December 2004

By Michael Dorausch, D.C.

I was throwing away some old files today when I came across some printing proofs I received from a yellow pages marketing company back in 2004. The advertisement was to appear in the alternative medicine and health practitioner category of the LA Westside Yellow Pages book. I believe the sales rep sent me four different advertisements, none of which I used. If I find a copy of the ad we did run, I’ll post a link here.

Here is a scan of the advertisement that was prepared…

I think what happens to a lot of chiropractors is they end up running the advertisements that sales representatives create for them. It’s easy and doesn’t require any creative input. This ad was made with no input from me and I believe it was a smattering of advertisements seen for chiropractors in other cities and information off of my website. That’s a generic photograph in the ad, something I wouldn’t recommend. The address was wonky, since we’re technically not located in Culver City or Marina del Rey. Actually, looking at it now, I noticed it wasn’t even complete. The office is located in Los Angeles, California. (Marina del Rey and Culver City happen to be within blocks of our location).

Being in a large metro area like Los Angeles, there were four major yellow page books distributed by different companies. On top of that there were a dozens local directories maintained by smaller operations. In 2006 we had advertisements running in nearly every major yellow page book. That dropped to about half in 2007 and even less in 2008. As of 2009, we are completely out of all forms of print advertising in the Los Angeles area. It feels good.

I mentioned yellow pages in my 2007 post on advertising dollars for 2008 and I talked about split Metro advertising also in 2007.  Anybody that’s been in small business long enough, has been targeted by yellow page and Internet directory scams, I’d still advise small business owners be on the lookout for fraudulent activity not only online, but off-line in the print world as well.
