October 2008 Month End ChiroNews Round Up

It's Halloween 2008, time for scary movies, unhealthy candy, and even some last-minute Halloween costume ideas, for those of you that have waited up until this point to decide on your costume. After all the Halloween parades, parties and other festivities settle down, don't forget there's still a President to elect this coming Tuesday. Not only that, depending on where you live, it's time to turn the clock back on November 2 (Sunday), for daylight savings time. The month of October 2008 began with news that Palmer chiropractic College had received an HSRA Grant Award to establish a practice based research network. The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration awarded a grant for over $310,000 to the Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research.

On October 3rd Dr. Michael Dorausch took a look at Internet search traffic related to the vice presidential debate, which took place on October 2nd. Times have certainly changed since our television dominant society with three of the top searches being related to watching the VP debates online.

On Saturday, October 4th, there was news from the St. Regis Hotel in Dana Point California. Organizations including the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and businesses including planetchiropractic.com sponsored and attended an autism awareness fundraiser. The poker tournament and casino night was MC’d by 7 time Tour de France winning cyclist Lance Armstrong and author Jenny McCarthy.

In early October there was a blog post visiting the defunct Colorado College of Chiropractic and a more in-depth view of political terms appearing in web site search results.

Chiropractors were reminded of the importance in joining alumni associations and holistic health care organizations. That news was followed by political summaries that showed chiropractors gave more money to Democrats in 2008 which was followed by a chart breakdown of individuals in Congress that received chiropractic donations during the same period.

October marked some of our best advances made in relationship to posting and responding to chiropractic classified advertisement. A Surefire Way to Separate You from Your Money showed yet another 419 scam e-mail involving international IP addresses. Classifieds ads in October became equipped with reCAPTCHA technology, which is helping to digitize printed works.

Big news for those with muscles, Miss Muscle Beach 1948 received a 60 year anniversary award during a bodybuilding ceremony in Venice Beach, California. The 1948 award-winning fitness enthusiast publicly thanked her chiropractor and talked about the importance of regular chiropractic care for maintaining one’s longevity and good health.

New chiropractors received a recipe for failure, with a warning to watch out for the latest gadget sales pitches targeted at the chiropractic industry. Ironically, the news was followed days later with reports of spinal decompression tables entering the market as bank repossessions. That was followed by news that more than 30 chiropractor businesses were posted for sale within a single day, showing evidence that it’s a buyers market when it comes to chiropractic practices and equipment manufacturing.

There were two letters from presidential candidate Barack Obama, one related to a universal health care plan, and the other Obama’s thoughts on Chiropractic and Medicare.

The chiropractic blogs section featured a post in early October with updates related to playing and downloading chiropractic audio MP3 files. A new MP3 plug-in was installed during the weekend of October 11th and new chiropractic audio was added to the web site.

The month was rounded up with a blog post poking fun at dangerous choices for chiropractor Halloween costumes and a news summary of Halloween office ideas and happenings from 2008 and years prior.
