A Surefire Way to Separate You from Your Money

By Daria Belov

Regardless of what’s going on in the US economy, an activity that has not changed much is the practice of 419 phishing scams, e-mail attempts that target individuals with the goal of separating them from their money and personal belongings. If you buy or sell items online (using any website) this post may be important to you. What may appear as an innocent e-mail from someone wanting to purchase your Schwinn bicycle, Mac Airbook, or other item, is more than likely a fraudulent attempt to motivate you in shipping your product overseas, in hopes of a fast and profitable sale.

Don’t get duped! We are covering this exact topic several times a month at www.planetchiropractic.com and we continue to receive e-mails from people doing research online regarding e-mail and postal addresses included in fraudulent replies to classifieds placed throughout the Internet.

The most recent one seen on our network came through this morning from an IP address based in Italy. Sender IP logs showed that IP address was e-mailing people on our web site that had chiropractic products listed for sale. A Whois Record lookup for more information returned and IP location of Savona Italy. Interestingly the individual sending out the e-mails claimed to be in London (United Kingdom) and was expecting to ship items to Australia.

Below is a copy of the e-mail sent to nearly all individuals selling products. It’s highly likely the same e-mails were sent to other classified ad networks and web sites as well.
