I’m 23 from Pennsylvania and I’m starting a pre-chiropractic track at IUP here this coming spring. I know I’m jumping the gun on this but I cant help but think what would be more productive, to find a job with a firm? Or start my own business? The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) announced in October that the Palmer Academic Health Center and the Campus Health Center clinics on the Palmer College of Chiropractic campus at 1000 Brady St., Davenport, Iowa, have received Recognition from the Back Pain Recognition Program (BPRP) for providing superior care to clinic patients suffering from low back pain. According to the NCQA registry, these Palmer College clinics and their respective faculty clinicians are the only healthcare facilities and providers in Iowa to receive BPRP recognition.

Palmer’s Florida Campus to Construct Third Building

The Florida Campus of Palmer College of Chiropractic is growing… again. The Palmer College Board of Trustees approved a plan in September to construct a two-story, 14,000-square-foot building with a budget of $4 million on the Port Orange campus, located at 4777 City Center Parkway. The new building will significantly expand support services for the campus’ nearly 750 students. Construction is expected to begin in early 2011, following approvals by the City of Port Orange.

Glad I decided to pack my heavy Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens along with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi camera when I went to New Jersey for New Beginnings this past weekend. As I typically do at chiropractic conferences (and even search engine optimization conferences) I took lots of photos. I have found over the past 15 years, that if I don’t upload those photos soon after they’re taken, they disappear somewhere into the abyss of my hard drives and backup media.

One of the provisions in the nation’s new health law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, authorizes the creation of an autonomous Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) as a nonprofit corporation that is not “an agency or establishment of the U.S. Government.” In an announcement today by the U.S. Government Accountability Office, Palmer College of Chiropractic’s Vice Chancellor for Research and Health Policy Christine Goertz, D.C., Ph.D., was appointed to the Board of Governors of PCORI.

Life Chiropractic Hosts Summer Rugby Camp

Life University, rated by USA Rugby as the top rugby program in the country, recently hosted a four-day intensive rugby camp for high school students. Sixty-five rising ninth through rising twelfth graders came to the Marietta campus July 13-16, from as far away as Korea to learn technique and strategy from the coaches and players on the Life University team. The camp sold out so quickly, that Life is planning to have at least two camps sessions in the summer of 2011.

In a ground-breaking study, medical and chiropractic researchers are joining efforts to study the effects of a form of non-surgical treatment for neck pain, more specifically Cox distraction manipulation. This study is one of three projects that are part of a four-year, $2.8 million grant awarded in 2008 to the Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research (PCCR), headquartered on the Palmer College of Chiropractic campus in Davenport, Iowa.

Seven Parker College student interns from the student abroad program in Colombia and their faculty chiropractor joined the Olympic health care staff in the 2010 South American Games by providing chiropractic care for the country of Colombia where they made history by becoming the champion of the games for the first time. The games which took place in March were held in Medellin, Colombia including 15 competing countries for two weeks in 42 sports.

Kinesio Taping Seminars Southern California

Kinesio Taping is a corrective taping technique that incorporates a proprietary tape. According to the manufacturer, Kinesio tape has no chemicals or medication in it, it is a mechanical tape. Kinesio Taping Seminars are taking place at the Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCUHS) the weekend of July 17 and July 18.
