In the more than 20 years I’ve lived in Los Angeles no visiting friend or relative has reported disappointment in driving excursions I’ve taken them on in the Southland. Nearly all of those impromptu tours have involved destinations such as Hollywood, Malibu and Santa Monica, and areas in and adjacent to Beverly Hills. As I navigate the traffic clogged streets of LA, driving past a former residence of a Hollywood movie star usually satisfies their interests, and I’m happy to oblige. While there is a desire to see more of places like Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, or maybe even Sunset Boulevard, I like to make a special stop in the rare occasion the person visiting has a background in chiropractic. What may appear like a noncelebrity stop on the edges of Koreatown is in actuality a historical chiropractic location.

Barcelona College of Chiropractic (BCC), the world’s first bilingual chiropractic college, will open in October 2009. The BCC is an international college located in the heart of the beautiful Mediterranean city of Barcelona. This vibrant city is rich in art, language, history, architecture, cuisine and culture. Additionally, it’s beaches and surrounding mountains provide many perfect opportunities for skiing, surfing, hiking and biking.

Summertime 2009 is in full swing, and while you’re out enjoying some good times with family and friends, don’t forget there’s some spectacular activities for chiropractors to participate in this July and August. On the East Coast, on the West Coast, in the Midwest, and throughout the world, there are chiropractor gatherings taking place, so that the inner chiropractic spark that moves you can continue burning brightly.

On July 18 it’s going to be live chiropractic from South Florida on a Saturday night. I received a Facebook invite today from chiropractor Paula Hedglon regarding a Saturday night event taking place in Fort Lauderdale. Chiropractors in Florida have always impressed me with their spirit of community mindedness both inside and outside the industry of chiropractic. All chiropractors in the South Florida region should be attending these regular events.

There is a poker tournament coming to Southern California this October, as part of a special event to benefit Talk about Curing Autism (TACA), taking place at the St. Regis Hotel in Monarch Beach. This is the third annual event and it is scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2009. I received a postcard today and wanted to share the news with others. Save the date and prepare to visit Southern California for this gala event.

The month of June featured lots of new chiropractic classified advertisements placed in the categories of practices for sale, chiropractic jobs, employment opportunities, and equipment for sale by private parties. Nearly all the practices for sale are listed in the United States, but there are some in Canada as well, and even some practices listed internationally. The Associates job wanted and job available categories have been fairly active during the month of June, and will likely continue to be so throughout the summer. Those using the categories for selling chiropractic products online once again advised to use common sense and be alert to potential scams.

Classified advertising online has experienced a steadily growing pace during the past decade. While millions of people have bought and sold items, bartered goods and services, and even made pet adoptions, taking precautionary measures when using online services is still a good practice. Just as you would look both ways before crossing a busy intersection, applying basic steps to assure the party you’re dealing with is legitimate, should not be discounted when using classified advertising websites.

Just when the flu “formerly known as swine” was losing its headline luster for being too mild and ordinary a bug, the first global influenza pandemic in 41 years was declared by the World Health Organization (WHO). On June 11, 2009 the WHO raised the pandemic warning to level 6, the highest possible alert.

Continuing education for the chiropractic industry has some new locations coming this fall, thanks to expanding programs from the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, in cities like Philadelphia, Minneapolis and Toronto. Planet Chiropractic received notification from the ICPA regarding their practitioner certification program, with news that the program is expanding to new cities in the United States and Canada beginning this fall 2009.

Time to get together and get focused! There is a Focus Philosophy Chiropractic Weekend taking place in Pennsylvania on the weekend of August 8th. That’s a Saturday, for those of you that haven’t checked your calendar yet, and I’m thinking about making a flight from Los Angeles, because I love Focus Philosophy events.

Rock ‘n roll and chiropractic are two things I’m really passionate about, and it appears I’m not alone. “My crew is calling this the Canadian chiropractic tour!” was the tweet sent out last night from the twitter profile of rock and roller Randy Bachman. Bachman and crew are on a summer rock ‘n roll tour of Canada, with chiropractors playing the role of pit crew.

What’s it like writing news content for the past 10 years? I can tell you that today, everything has the potential to be newsworthy, as the world has become a constant flow of online information. Today we celebrate 10 years of consistent news content creation and there’s times I wonder just what went on during the past decade. For you Internet old-timers that have been around creating content since previous to 1999, I salute you, it’s a constant effort. It’s Father’s Day Sunday morning, and I’m already 3 posts up in preparation of the week ahead. There’s more than a dozen articles outlined on the whiteboards lining my office, but I’m taking some time off for the rest of the day.

The 2009 US Open Golf Championship has made it to the weekend, despite rain hitting Long Island, making play difficult on the already treacherous Bethpage Black course at Bethpage State Park in New York. If you’re not watching the US Open live on NBC, there are several online resources for keeping up with scores and seeing who’s on top of the leaderboard.

The longest day of the year is here, Sunday is the first day of summer for 2009, taking us into the approaching summer solstice (June 21 at 05:45). In case you’re wondering, the solstice is an astronomical event that occurs twice each year, when the tilt of the Earth’s axis is most inclined toward or away from the Sun, resulting the Sun’s apparent position in the sky to reach its northernmost or southernmost extreme. Opposite from Summer, the winter solstice is the shortest day of the year.

Playing Bethpage Black in the 2009 US Open this weekend? It’s possible you are if your name is Tiger Woods. Let’s face it.
