Does getting the measles help prevent asthma?

From MSNBC.com comes an article titled: Measles may help to prevent asthma

The article reports that, “an early case of the measles may help some people avoid asthma” according to new research.

According to the article, having had the measles before the age of three may have lead to some sort of protective effect against asthma. The article suggests that there is some association between having the measles and its protection against asthma.

The article states that “scientists suspect that being exposed to many infections early in life switches the immune system away from developing allergic responses.”

Some questions to ask:
Are vaccinations against measles increasing our children’s risks of developing asthma in the future?
What role does the nervous system play in the development of an optimally functioning immune system?
Where in the body is the immune system?

“Maybe we’ve merely exchanged acute childhood illnesses for lifelong, chronic damage to the immune system.” – Randall Neustaedter, O.M.D.
