December 21, 2008 marks the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere. It is a time when the Sun’s position in the sky is at its greatest angular distance from the position of the observer, meaning in the northern hemisphere it is the shortest day of the year.
The winter solstice marks the reversal in gradually shortening days and the event is celebrated in many cultures as a time of renewing or rebirth. Here is a collection of photographs taken in different locations throughout the Northern Hemisphere during the day of winter solstice.

By Michael Dorausch, D.C. One of my staff members is out of the office on vacation and I’ve just sat down at her computer to do some upgrades like installing FireFox and Picasa. After doing the Picasa install the software scanned the drive for images and I discovered hundreds of photos (some almost NSFW) on…
By Michael Dorausch, D.C. It’s Sunday morning and I’m still out at the AOL building in Beverly Hills for BarCampLA-5, a geek fest (see my intro post from earlier this week on BarCamp5) in currently sunny Southern California. This weekends venue is quite a contrast to the BarCampLA, which was held in the warehouse district…
By Michael Dorausch, D.C. Depending on the chiropractor, chances are they’ll show up in the office this Halloween Friday in some sort of Halloween costume. By Michael Dorausch, D.C. Two things that are really near and dear to my heart, skateboarding, and the city of Venice, California. I was a kid skating Long Island around the time DogTown skateboard paraphernalia (mostly artfully done wooden skateboard decks) begin appearing in the New York suburbs. I figure that was around 1976 or…

By Michael Dorausch, D.C. I was looking at some xray photos today and I came across this AP Pelvic Lumbar Spine X-Ray. It was taken with an analog xray system and I took a photo of the film while it was up on a viewbox. Unlike the LMFAO Cervical Spine Xray post I don’t have…
