ICA educates new corps of chiropractors as wellness certification shifts in 2008 to Dallas, Portland and Philadelphia

The International Chiropractors Association is pleased to announce it will conduct its landmark Chiropractic Wellness Certification series for 2008 in Dallas, Portland and Philadelphia. “This groundbreaking educational program has proven to be one of the most successful certification offerings in chiropractic, with well over 3,500 chiropractors, students and chiropractic assistants having taken one or more of the four on-sire modules since its inauguration in 2004,” said ICA President Dr. John K. Maltby.

ICA will conduct the onsite instruction in four weekend modules as follows: Dallas, Feb. 23-24, April 5-6, June 28-29 and Oct. 4-5; Portland, March 8-9, May 31-June 1, Sept. 13-14 and Oct. 18-19 and Philadelphia, May 17-18, July 12-13, Aug. 23-24 and Nov. 1-2.

ICA Council on Wellness Science Chiropractors A program of the ICA Council on Wellness Science, the certification series is taught by James L. Chestnut, B.Ed., MSc., D.C., C.C.W.P, and Richard A. Baxter, B.Eng., D.C., both of whom practice in Victoria, B.C., and are highly acclaimed for their grasp of the subject and understanding of its relevance to the practitioner.

“There is information in this program linking the importance of every arena of your life,” said Craig McDowell, D.C., Gafney, S.C. “Too many people think it is one area only. What wellness does is show how everything fits together to bring total wellness with scientific data to back it all up.” Guy Lasich, D.C., of Marquette, MI., declared that the certification “is so needed in the profession at large. We need many more of these.” Brandon Cooper, D.C., of New York City, added: “I love the ways that this teaching can be applied to my practice on a daily basis.”

Instruction emphasizes validation of the chiropractic wellness paradigm plus wellness nutrition and natural health, wellness physical fitness and spinal hygiene and wellness state of mind, emotional health and secrets of eliciting patient lifestyle change.

The certification plan consists of an eight-part program taught in four twelve-hour on-site modules and four at-home sessions. A final examination is required for postgraduate wellness accreditation as a Certified Chiropractic Wellness Practitioner (C.C.W.P.), by the ICA Wellness Council. The program is open to chiropractic students and chiropractic assistants under special guidelines.

“The Chiropractic Wellness Certification gives practitioners practical research and science-based data in a growing field that is increasingly relevant because it addresses important health issues in which chiropractors can or already do excel,” said Dr. Maltby. “Those who complete the curriculum build genuine understanding of the founding philosophic principles of chiropractic. They also are equipped to fill an important lifestyle and public health gap in their communities by becoming a sound source of evidence-based wellness living.”

Dr. Chestnut operates a chiropractic wellness practice in Victoria, B.C.. He received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2000, and holds a Master of Science in exercise physiology and Bachelor of Education with distinction from the University of Victoria. The author of four books and several peer-reviewed scientific articles, he speaks worldwide on the scientific validation of chiropractic family practice and on genetically congruent living, The Innate LifestyleTM.

Dr. Baxter holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the Royal Military College of Canada and a Doctor of Chiropractic (cum laude) in 2000 from CMCC. He was awarded his FICPA designation in 2000. Together with Dr. Chestnut, he co-founded Discover Chiropractic Family Wellness Centre in Victoria, where he practices full-time.
