December 21, 2008 marks the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere. It is a time when the Sun’s position in the sky is at its greatest angular distance from the position of the observer, meaning in the northern hemisphere it is the shortest day of the year.
The winter solstice marks the reversal in gradually shortening days and the event is celebrated in many cultures as a time of renewing or rebirth. Here is a collection of photographs taken in different locations throughout the Northern Hemisphere during the day of winter solstice.

In the northern hemisphere, 2008 Winter solstice takes place at 12:04 on December 21. It marks the beginning of lengthening days and it’s a great time to reflect on the past six months, and celebrate the birth of the days ahead.
What a great way to make use of your plastic spine models that you likely have in your chiropractic office. This image of a human occipital bone, first cervical vertebrae, and second cervical vertebrae, was made by placing a plastic spine model on a solid color surface (blue or green works well) and converting the…
By Michael Dorausch, D.C. Back in July of last year, I was in Vancouver for Canada Day, along with a few days of hiking and visiting chiropractors. One of the photos from the trip appeared in my 2010 iPhone review photos and a few appeared on my Michael Dorausch blog related to beer drinking (some…
By Michael Dorausch, D.C. While working for planetchiropractic.com I’ve taken thousands of photographs of chiropractors across the planet. Some chiropractors are old, some chiropractors are young, some chiropractors are yet to be (as they were students when we took their photographs). In preserving the history of chiropractic and those we’ve crossed paths with, I’m sharing…
By Michael Dorausch, D.C. I don’t think that this slideshow works if you’re using an Internet Explorer browser. It should work in Firefox. These images are from the Chiropractic California Jam which was held on Saturday, April 26, 2008, at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. More than 1000 chiropractors were in attendance for the…
By Michael Dorausch, D.C. One of my staff members is out of the office on vacation and I’ve just sat down at her computer to do some upgrades like installing FireFox and Picasa. After doing the Picasa install the software scanned the drive for images and I discovered hundreds of photos (some almost NSFW) on…
By Michael Dorausch, D.C. Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Photos for the 2008 televised event are available here, thanks to Flickr, and the wonderful photographers that posted this year’s fashion show photos online. I could use the argument that as a chiropractor I’m only sharing these images of supermodels in lingerie for the value of posture…
