More 1998ish photos featuring chiropractors

By Michael Dorausch, D.C.

There is a hard drive somewhere in my house that has a complete archive of photographs from the 1998 through 2000 CREW chiropractic missions to Panama. I probably have more mentions about finding the drive than actually uploading any photographs, so we will see of 2009 is the year they get found.

I’ve been condensing some old hard drives onto one big backup drive and I found a couple of photographs from a 1998 chiropractic mission trip. This first one shows to chiropractors checking the spines of individuals working at a electric powerplant. I want to say this is inside the Panamá Canal facility but I’m not certain. We adjusted in nearly every imaginable place, so it could be sewer treatment facility for all I know.

If my memory serves me correctly, we had two trips to Panamá that year. On one of the trips there were more than a hundred chiropractors serving an estimated 250,000 individuals. They packed the gymnasiums, public facilities, and nearly every other major location chiropractors were set up to provide care.

Chiropractors also traveled together in groups (like the 2  shown above) and provided care to people working at government facilities (power plants, trash companies, banks, and schools). To this day it’s amazing to think how organized everything ran whenever these mission trips took place.

Below shows a chiropractor in orange shirt checking the spine of a woman with some fairly big gold earrings. In the background there’s a bunch of peaople waiting in line for their chance to sit in the seats and be checked by DCs.

People came to be adjusting dressed in many different fashions. Many were well dressed and came from work or school. Nearly all care was provided during weekdays so that may explain the well dressed appearance many visiting had.  We, on the other hand, were often in t-shirts and shorts (like obvious tourists) and it was HOT!

That’s a picture of me from 1998 in the city of Penome. Atlas beer is very popular in Panamá and as chiropractors, we obviously found it pretty amusing that there was now an unofficial beer of chiropractors everywhere. On the days we were done providing chiropractic care to the residents of Panamá, Atlas lager was served, and we enjoyed some good times in the Central American sun.

I don’t think the above photo was taken in 1998 but it was in the same directory. Looks more to me that it was from a trip we did in 2000 or maybe even 2002. There was a village we went to during that trip that was not far from Panama City. Pretty sure the above photo was taken there. The kids were amazing and most everyone was dressed in real colorful attire. The above photo shows a strikingly different look from the Spanish Panamanian individuals you may expect to see in the city area.

I’m due for another trip this year.
