Link Exchange Request And Other PC E-Mails

Link exchange requests are a common e-mail received at the Planet Chiropractic office. I'm sure a large number of webmasters receive e-mails like these, and I suspect many of them are automated, and targeted at sites that appear on some list that has been thrown together at some point in time. In the past 10 years that I've been overseeing operations at planetchiropractic.com, I can't think of more than three times that we've actually agree to some sort of link exchange. Not that it wasn't a good idea at the time, it's just not something we did. Today, it's something we definitely don't do, nor is it something I'd recommend as a practice for any website owner, except in some specific instances.

Here’s a copy of one of the latest e-mail requests I’ve received for a link exchange…

This is one of the better requests for a link exchange that I have received. No offense to the webmaster that sent it, I think they did a fine job in their presentation of what they were seeking. I just don’t know how effective it is to send Link exchange requests like these out in bulk without ever having any other communication with the webmaster of the site you’re hoping to get a link from.

Don’t get me wrong on links, I love them, I just think there’s a better way to go about link building than using the method shown above. Okay, on to other e-mails…

I spoke to some really fired up chiropractic students earlier this week while at the Tuesday night DCS event with Patrick Gentempo. We talked about fund raising, the student ACA, and the World Congress of Chiropractic (WCCS) Students. Turns out the WCCS is an international forum representing students in the chiropractic profession. According to the web site, active membership consists of over 28,000 students from 32 chiropractic colleges. The annual conference that students at CCCLA intend to raise $40,000 for is taking place during the month of August of 2009. The event will be held in New Zealand. Planet Chiropractic is looking forward to working with students from around the globe, so as many as possible can attend this conference. I’m sure many chiropractors and vendors will support this trip as well.

Dr. Dale Andelkovic of Active Life Chiropractic in Redlands California e-mailed me regarding my mention of digital x-ray in the spinal decompression post from earlier this week.

Dr. Dale writes… Just read your article on decompression and digital xray. We want to upgrade to digital but have not done it yet for a couple of reasons. One is that we do think the price will continue to drop. The second is that we do full spine xray, and although you can take full spine xrays digitally, showing them and comparing them on a computer screen instead of a large view box probably won’t have nearly the impact visually. I’m hoping there is a way around this. Just wanted to throw in my opinion.

Dr. Dale makes a really good point that I had even thought about. How are chiropractors that use full spine x-rays adopting to digital video systems? As Dr. Dale mentions, the units can take digital full spine films but how does a chiropractor display them like they would with a traditional light box. The first thing that came to mind for me would be to use two 42 inch LCD panel monitors turned vertically. That could be pretty expensive, pretty heavy duty on the wall, and could take up lots of space. Although I think it’s pretty awesome to think about seeing sets of pre-and post full spine films in such a fashion.

Films like these may lose some impact if they were to be decreased in size when viewing, and I’m sure lots of chiropractors would complain about a lack of accuracy since they wouldn’t be to scale, but I think the above scenario could probably be accomplished using even dual 30 inch monitors, tilted vertically.

Last year I was at one of those futuristic technology conferences where I got to play with a monitor that was not only about 7 feet wide and 4 feet tall, it was a touch screen. The multi-touch interface design was created by Jeff Han. Below is a picture of him showing a demonstration on only a portion of that touch interface monitor.

Imagine being able to mark your full spine films on that! Will make for one hell of a report of findings. I agree with Dr. Andelkovic that the price will continue to go down and I wonder if anyone is addressing specifically the niche area of digital x-ray systems for full spine film taking chiropractic providers.

That’s it for selected emails, I’ll address some others over the weekend.
