I had a new patient on Friday. Her mom brought her in to the office. She is 15 months old. She has a bad cough. I was impressed that her mom thought of Chiropractic for her daughter since she isn’t a patient. She told me that her parents had taken her to the Chiropractor several times when she was a child and she thought we might be able to help her. I congratulated her for bringing her daughter to us and I adjusted her. After the adjustment I asked her how long her daughter had the cough. She told me she had it since last Friday. I asked her if she woke up with the cough. She said no, she said she has had the cough since she the child had her flu shot. I asked her why she got her a flu shot. She told me she got it because the doctor told her the child needed it. I asked why did the doctor think that her child should get the shot. She had no idea. She hadn’t even thought about it. The doctor told her to do it so she did it.
Does that scare you? It scares me. She would literally kill for her child and she let them inject her without question. What is wrong with this picture? What will it take for people to take responsibility for their health and to start making choices? Most are making a choice. The choice is to do what the doctor tells them to do. The problem with that is that the doctors have several motivations these days, among them are the fear of malpractice, the influence of the health insurance companies and the almighty pharmaceutical industry. I fear for those that don’t question. Not making a choice is ultimately a choice.
I feel violated every time I see a commercial for a prescription medication. I guess they have found people will take more medication if they ask their doctors to prescribe them. If I was a medical doctor I would feel like my authority was being undermined.
You know when you watch the news and there are stories about the hospitals or a new medication or treatment for a disease. Did you realize that those video clips are submitted by the hospitals and pharmaceutical public relations firms? Ultimately they are advertising to us on the news. People think that it’s news.
They are constantly advertising the medical way of thinking. The outside-in way of living. All of it is fear based. No one wants the newest disease or symptom. They are selling the fear of darkness rather than selling the light. That is what we do. We sell the light.
