The Indianapolis 500 mile race is billed as the “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing”, as it’s one of the world’s oldest motorsports events, and is considered one of the 3 most significant motor racing events in the world. You may think a lot of people turn out for the Super Bowl, but with infield as well as permanent seating, attendee capacity for the Indy 500 is around 400,000 people. That makes Indy 500 race day at Indianapolis Motor Speedway the largest single day sporting event on the planet.
Photos and profiles for the official 2009 Indianapolis 500 Starting Field are available on the Indy 500 website (Starting Field Photos). The Indy 500 lineup page features all drivers with their cars, and the ability to order 8×12 Indy 500 photo prints online.
The online photo sharing website Flickr is great for finding indie 500 related photos, both from amateur as well as professional photographers. Set your browser in the direction of Flickr and perform some specific image searches for Indy 500 pictures using terms like: Indy 500, Indianapolis 500, and Indy 500 2009 (which allowed me to find this picture of a 2009 Indy 500 Pace Car by Chevrolet). You can also get creative with image search and use settings that will only show photos taken past today’s date, which increases the likelihood they are recently uploaded Indy 500 Race Day photographs.

Believe it or not I have some Indianapolis 500 related chiropractic trivia for you. What legendary race car driver was sponsored by “Chiropractic” in the 1958 Indy 500? I’ll give you a hint, he finished 1958 race in fifth place, and went on to take the first place championship for the Indianapolis 500 in 1960. The answer is Jim Rathmann, winner of the 1960 Indianapolis 500. Jim Rathmann is also currently the oldest living winner of the Indy 500. I know some diehard racing fans got it right.
