Texans Round Up Former Life Students

By Michael Dorausch, D.C.

The news in the Pasadena Citizen reads…

“When a small university in Georgia lost its accreditation, Texas Chiropractic College sent its director of admissions to the campus to recruit students who were looking to graduate from an accredited program. Life University College of Chiropractic lost its accreditation by the Council of Chiropractic Education last June. After a failed attempt by LUCC to appeal the decision, about 120 students decided to leave the university and transfer to Pasadena’s TCC.”

According to the article, TCC sent their director of admissions to Georgia to recruit students. As a result, Texas Chiropractic College is now boasting of their largest incoming class in the schools history. The article does not mention that TCC was represented on the CCE Commission and voted to revoke Life’s accreditation.

A flashback to July 15th, 2002…
I have just witnessed an event that would make even the tallest, proudest Texan hang his head in shame. At 2:05 THIS MORNING (Monday, July 15) a charter bus and a van pulled out of Marietta, Georgia with approximately 60 students from Life University headed to Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena, Texas. Given the circumstances of Life University’s unresolved accreditation situation, one could not blame the students for checking out their options. But, that’s not really the whole story.

On June 10 of this year, the Council on Chiropractic Education unexpectedly refused to re-affirm Life’s accreditation because of the school’s supposed unwillingness to adhere to relatively new guidelines. Oddly, Life University (the world’s largest chiropractic teaching institution with an enrollment of 2,600) was not represented on CCE’s Commission on Accreditation, while Texas Chiropractic College (with an enrollment of 350) is represented on the Commission and voted to revoke Life’s accreditation.

At 4:30 on the afternoon of June 10, Dr. Alvin Richard was told to be in Marietta the next day. Indeed, Dr. Richard was in Marietta the next day buying dinner for over 100 Life students at Sidelines, a sports bar just two miles from the Life campus, and extolling the virtues of his alma mater and employer.

From Dr. Tim Langley’s published letter… Texas Pride – Life & TCC Texas Pride – Life & TCC

Pasadena Citizen: TCC adjusts to increased student enrollment

Note: I have witnessed several hard working in practice chiropractors stand up, speak out and get involved in making a difference in chiropractic this past year. They have organized groups, initiated email campaigns, and traveled to Georgia to offer their assistance. Some are not graduates of Life University but felt it their duty to protect and preserve the principles taught at institutions such as Life. During the same period, it appears that several gurus, coaches, peddlers and seminar speakers have scattered and are off to what they perhaps perceive as brighter and better pastures. – Just my thots.
