Scheduled for Thursday, April 26th
The Chiropractic Coalition’s Legislative Day 2007 has been scheduled for Thursday, April 26th, with a host of key legislators on the agenda, along with an important Medicare Round Table at which senior Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) representatives will be present to answer individual doctors’ questions. The 2007 event will be held at the Executive Room at the Washington Court Hotel, conveniently located on the US Senate side of Capitol Hill at 525 New Jersey Ave. NW, Washington D.C. Registration and continental breakfast open at 7:45 AM, with the day’s program kicking off at 8:45 AM with a detailed briefing on the Coalition’s 2007 legislative agenda and objectives.
Presentations will include appearances by top policy makers as well as practical briefings on how to most effectively communicate with your Members of Congress. Among the invited Congressional guests are Rep. Bob Filner of California, Sen. Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas, Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey, Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, Rep. Shelley Berkley of Nevada and many more.
“Congress will always be a vitally important battleground for the future of chiropractic,” said Coalition Legislative Day Organizational Chairman Dr. Donald Hirsh. “Every doctor of chiropractic, student, family member and patient has a stake in the outcome of the Coalition’s legislative efforts and everyone interested in the future of chiropractic is not only welcome, but needed at this key lobbying event.”
The member organizations of the Chiropractic Coalition, including the International Chiropractors Association (ICA), the Federation of Straight Chiropractors and Organizations (FSCO) and the World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA) will be promoting an agreed legislative agenda that includes Medicare improvements, better access to chiropractic care for military veterans, commissions for doctors of chiropractic as military officers, chiropractic inclusion in the TRICARE program for military dependents and retirees and other key initiatives.
In the new Congress, the chiropractic profession will be facing the traditional battle for scarce federal funds, a struggle complicated by the massive new spending generated by the Medicare prescription drug benefit, revenue deficits and a crushing national debt. The Chiropractic Coalition is determined, among other goals, to educate policy makers on the stark contrast between the Medicare drug spending issue and the importance of expanding access for all federal beneficiaries to the cost-effective, natural care choice available through chiropractic.
“This event is about influencing policy makers, not trying to impress each other,” said Dr. Hirsh. “Our entire emphasis is on the effective mobilization of hundreds of DCs, students, CAs and family members on behalf of key chiropractic legislative initiatives, as well as educating policy makers in general about the unique role chiropractic has to play in providing safe, highly cost-effective care for consumers of all ages.”

The Chiropractic Coalition was founded in November 2002 by three major chiropractic organizations, the International Chiropractors Association (ICA), the World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA) and the Federation of Straight Chiropractors and Organizations (FSCO). The mission of this cooperative effort is the promotion of chiropractic science and practice as a separate and distinct, drugless and non-surgical approach to health that mobilizes the body’s natural healing abilities, without intrusion into the realms of other professions.
The group’s stated mission is “to protect and support the interests of chiropractic consumers and chiropractors through effective and aggressive unified legislative and regulatory efforts, legal action, and public education” and to “promote chiropractic worldwide as a clearly defined, separate, and distinct profession while protecting the chiropractic consumer’s right to have full and direct access to chiropractic care for the correction of vertebral subluxation.”
