Hundreds of people came together in Dana Point (Orange County), CA last night to raise money and awareness towards curing autism. The star studded swanky event, which featured numerous celebrity guests and participants, was MC’ed by Jenny McCarthy and 7 time Tour de France winning Lance Armstrong. The chiropractic profession was well represented with event sponsorships being provided by Planet Chiropractic and the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA).

On October 2nd, 2008, parts of the St. Regis Hotel in Monarch Beach (Dana Point) California was transformed into a casino style venue which featured a poker tournament and other Vegas style playing games (blackjack, roulette, and craps) for the Friday night fundraiser. Participation by World Cycling Champion Lance Armstrong and Hollywood Celebrity turned Autism Activist Jenny McCarthy added an extra level of excitement to the evening, which also featured a long red carpet entry and paparazzi like photo shoots taking place on entry.
Besides gambling, there was food, libation, a silent and live auction, and lot’s of celebrity elbow rubbing (especially at the 10 poker tables) taking place. Auction items included signed prints and sports memorabilia from sources such as the Los Angeles Lakers, Tony Hawk, Ryan Sheckler, and Lance Armstrong himself.
The Ante Up For Autism event had many sponsors with a products and gift bag sponsorship coming from the ICPA and poker straight sponsorship by Planet Chiropractic. All attendees received recent copies of the chiropracticly created Pathways Family Wellness Lifestyle Magazine (Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey are featured on the magazines cover in this falls upcoming issue).
Host Jenny McCarthy had some time at the tables during the nights poker playoffs. The ten tables were not filled by celebrities alone, several professional card players (like Michelle Lau and Kristi Blakey) were in attendance.
Jenny was quite the host, her introduction early in the night was inspirational, as she talked about the reasons why we were all in attendance. Autism in America is a serious issue, with as many as 1 in 150 kids per year being diagnosed with the dis-ease that many in the world of medicine claim has no cure. Thanks in part to moms like Jenny, there is an international movement of scientists, physicians and parent-volunteers researching the causes and treatments for autism and mentoring thousands of families in recovering their children from autism.

Some chiro-related trivia… Did you know the birthday of Lance Armstrong is September 18th? That should be an easy date for chiropractors to remember being that it’s the same date DD Palmer gave an adjustment to Harvey Lillard back in 1895.
