2009 Ad Scam – First Nigerian Fraud Attempt Seen This Year

This relates to any website posting a classified advertising system, auction service, or community forum. Scammers looking to separate people from the items and money are hard at work daily. The chiropractic classifieds community at Planet Chiropractic has been vigilant in battling attempts by spammers and scammers to con active classified participants in sending their items and/or payments overseas. The first scan e-mail of the season appeared this morning, here are all the details.

The chiropractic classifieds community at Planet Chiropractic has been vigilant in battling attempts by spammers and scammers to con active classified participants in sending their items and/or payments overseas. The first scan e-mail of the season appeared this morning, here are all the details.

Information below is taken from actual e-mail sent by suspected scammer. Notice the message template is identical to those sent in the past by users with different e-mails (all coming from Yahoo.com accounts). We found it very important to post this information as it is possible since scammers are targeting hundreds of websites and savvy users have been conducting searches to see if they are legitimate. If that’s you, here is your answer… This is fraud, it is a scam, do not reply to e-mails, do not accept money orders, do not accept certified checks, discontinue all communication, report to your local Internet service provider and to the site on which you received the fraudulent e-mail.

Hello Seller,

In response to your item posted for sale. I am an agent interested in making an immediate purchase of it.

After several consideration over the advert placed on the website, my client who has really shown interest in it and would want to issue the payment.

But before I proceed on this transaction I will like to ask some question as follows.

1. Is the condition of the item what you have describe it to be ?
2. What is the final asking prize you can go at last ?
3. Do you accept a certified cheque as a mode of payment ?
4,Can the picture send to me via email for proper view?

Also I would like to restate clearly that this item will be shipped to Australia and I have a shipping agent who would take good care of this. You are to cash the Check you will recieve and deduct the funds for the sales of your item and please have the excess funds sent to the shipping agent in order to schedule the pick up of the item.

All neccesary transfer papers will be dully signed by the shipper on behalf of my client when the shipping agents comes for the pick up of the item .

Once you’ve seen one or two of these, you’ll begin to notice that they nearly all appear the same.
