Middle of the Road

By John F. Przybylak, D.C.

“Why Can’t We Have Unity?”
Have you heard this cry before? In fact every night it drones… “Waah!” The working chiropractor hears this moan from the non-involved, sedentary and inactive chiropractic potatoes. “No matter what state you go to there are always two state associations.” This is correct. There are at least two American associations, at least two World and International associations and more in the individual states, along with different colleges and techniques groups. A whole world exists, non-unified and separate. It is veritable mish mash of differences. It is a mess. But, is it really a mess?

I beg to differ. If we all were the same it would be a very boring world. It would be a weak place with little inspiration and enlightenment. Thank God, the world is not a homogenous volume of human beings working together. The world is something much, much stranger than that.

Difference is the definitive strength of the World. The greatest country on the planet is a veritable melting pot of strangers. This mixture of life yields the American citizen, a human being practicing life in a free land, with an ideology founded on truth. There are all types of people, with conflicting view points who add to the texture and substance of our culture. Whether agreeing or at odds, we co-exist. Steel striking steel sharpens steel. Being different and acting different gives us strength.

Be different. Have a view. Be pro-active. Make a change. Do not let what the others think of you cause you to tone down your act. Many people become spectators because of a perceived fear of non-acceptance. Fear motivates some people to sit on the couch and watch their lives go by. And bye- bye it goes. They wait at home for something to happen to them, clogging the arteries of our profession.

“Among the many there are few, and among the few there is YOU” – B.J. Palmer, D.C.

Fear motivates others to challenge the current state of affairs. It might be nuts to try to make a change. It might be insane to try to change the world. But if no one tried to change the world the world would never change. So the progress of the world relies on the crazy person. Be crazy. The real insanity is the person who does nothing and lets the world change them. The hopeless people are those who sit on their duffs while the others control their lives. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome.

“Who knows where madness lies. Too practical, too much sanity… the maddest of all is to see life as it is, and not as it should be.” – Don Quixote (Cervantes)

Those of you who haven’t made a decision are crazy. You suffer a delusional paranoia that envisions the world as being puppeteered by a force that will make sure that every thing is going to be all right. It’s not. You do nothing. Shit happens.

If you wish to end this current affliction, this psychosis is easily remedied by a simple treatment. Make a decision. Break out of your cell. One decision is the key. If it strains you too much, then start with a small decision. Make any decision. If you can’t make even one simple decision then please “Flip a bleeping coin.” It will at least set your mind rolling.
The rules are; if you make up your mind to change; you win. Pick a direction and point your ears back and drive. Just like the butterfly’s wing initiates a ripple in the atmosphere that moves the skies, you never know how far reaching things go.

Please don’t sit in the middle of the road. The middle of the road is for those vehicles with wheels, that are transporting people into the future. Get out of the middle of the road, you will surely get run right over. The middle of the road, is where the weak are huddled. It might be comfortable and seem unbiased and innocent. Safe from taking any chances. But in reality, you are dying quickly, The chiropractic bus that you fell off of, just might back up right over you.
Whether you are straight, mixer, philosophic, traditional, medically oriented, musculoskeletal, or subluxation based, you must stand up and be counted. Your non-compliance neutrality, and non-activity only primes you for grinding the gears that turn the wheels of progress. They are sure to eat you up, and spit you out.

To avoid being a vehicular casualty move!

The middle of the road is a thoroughfare for progress, a race track. It is not a hospice. You may drift one way or the other. Opting for riding the ethics of the day, hitching a free ride on another, but beware. Gangs fight in the street. You may land up in the middle of a war. With no allegiance and not knowing who your enemies are you are dead meat. You will be a casualty. Not a murdered innocent. But the enemy of both sides. Your lack of loyalty is a death sentence.

Lax, lukewarm, indifferent, opinions are as dangerous the of bullets road rage. The accidents that you cause are fatal, to yourself first, and then secondly, to the rest of us that you left out there on the battle field. Choose to fight today or regret it for the rest of your life.
