Life University will host the Rugby Super League national championship game versus San Francisco Golden Gate Rugby Club on Saturday, May 21, 2011

Marietta — The Life University Running Eagles rugby team beat Boston 27-23 on Saturday to clinch a berth in the Rugby Super League National Championship game on May 21st. Life University will host the championship game on its campus in Marietta versus San Francisco Golden Gate Rugby Club (SFGG), the 2009 national champions.

Rugby Super League is the highest level of rugby in the United States, comprised of 16 teams from 13 major markets across the country. Many players in the Rugby Super League represent their countries in international competitions such as the Rugby World Cup. Life University has finished second and third in 2009 and 2010 respectively, and is hoping to secure its second overall national championship in the Rugby Super League.

James Isaacson, Life University head rugby coach, says, “Hosting the national championship game is a prestigious event for the University. It’s very exciting for the players and the students.” Life University and San Francisco Golden Gate have enjoyed a healthy rivalry over the past two seasons, with SFGG having edged Life in the national championship game in 2009, as well as earning a slim victory over Life in the semifinals a year ago. Says Isaacson, “Both teams are very familiar with each other, which makes this game that much more exciting. Our players are well aware of the last two results against SFGG, and they are ready to turn the tables on Saturday.”

The game will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday on the Life University campus, and the pre-game tailgate party will begin at 1:00 p.m. Admission is $5 per person.

Media interested in attending the game, should contact Craig Dekshenieks, Life University’s Director of Communications at (770) 426-2833.
