LA Marathon 2009 Results and Photos

It's Marathon Monday in Los Angeles. This morning, fifteen thousand runners took to the streets of downtown Los Angeles, on a marathon course that ran through LA, on a 26.2 mile route back into downtown Los Angeles, with a finish line at 5th Street & Flower Street. Hundreds of thousands of cheering fans lined the streets as 2009 Los Angeles Marathon participants passed by, making their way downhill and then uphill (2009 LA Marathon course is fairly fast and flat), through neighborhoods and business districts, experiencing mild LA temperatures, and relying on both internal and external motivation, as they reached the homestretch, and finally the finish.

Hundreds of thousands of cheering fans lined the streets as 2009 Los Angeles Marathon participants passed by, making their way downhill and then uphill (2009 LA Marathon course is fairly fast and flat), through neighborhoods and business districts, experiencing mild LA temperatures, and relying on both internal and external motivation, as they reached the homestretch, and finally the finish.

It was the 24th Los Angeles Marathon, and 2009 Live Los Angeles Marathon coverage was broadcast locally via Channel 4 Los Angeles NBC station KNBC (knbc.com), while globally Los Angeles Marathon Live Video was streamed online via Universal Sports (universalsports.com).

The 2009 Los Angeles Marathon had the best live coverage ever, thanks to TV Marathon broadcasts, Los Angeles Marathon live video broadcasts online, and hundreds of 140 character message updates coming from those using Twitter to give us all the latest Los Angeles Marathon updates. 2009 Los Angeles Marathon Photos — thousands of cameras (ranging from amateur to pro) captured the activities of the day, and many of those photos will end up online. I’m including Los Angeles Marathon news sources, since they’ll undoubtedly have high quality photos from the day’s race. However, previous marathon covering experience has taught me to always check photo sharing sites like Flickr for additional race day photos.

Quite a few excellent photographers will post marathon photos to the Flickr photo sharing service. I’d suggest giving people a few days to upload photos (although some have already posted) and then perform searches for tags or terms like LA Marathon, LA Marathon 2009, Los Angeles Marathon, Los Angeles Marathon winners, and such.

Los Angeles Marathon Results — The final race results can be viewed directly on the Los Angeles Marathon website (LA Marathon 2009 Results) and overall winners can be viewed on the Top Finishers page. Los Angeles Marathon Results via Bib Number can be performed there. Top 10 Mens and Womens will be updated on that page.

Who won the 2009 Los Angeles Marathon? — Wesley Korir of Kenya, wearing bib #14, won the 2009 LA Marathon and the prize challenge. Wesley set a new Los Angeles Marathon course record with an official time of 2:08:24. Tatyana Valeriyevna Petrova, the 26 year old from Cheboksary Russia, won the womens division, with a time of 2:25:59, taking 13th place overall.

LA Marathon Top Three Men’s — Wesley Korir of Kenya, wearing bib #14, took first place with an official time of 02:08:24. Tariku Jufar of Ethiopia, wearing bib #1, took second place in the men’s division, with a time of 02:09:32. Laban Kipkemboi of Kenya, wearing bib #2, finished in third, with a time of 02:10:29.

LA Marathon Top Three Women’s — Tatyana Petrova of Russia, wearing bib #52, finished first place in the women’s division (13th overall), with a time of 02:25:59. Amane Gobena of Ethiopia, wearing bib #58, finished second in the women’s division (16th overall), with a time of 02:26:53. Silvia Skvortsova of New York, wearing bib #55, finished third in the women’s division (placed 17th overall) with a time of 02:28:35.
