Get your banking done today or Saturday since banks will be closed on Memorial Day 2009. Is your bank open on Sunday? I know some credit unions are open on Sundays but not of the banks I use are open. Monday is also a Postal Holiday, so don’t expect service from the USPS, FedEx or UPS on Memorial Day. On the 1st of the year I organized a list of all US 2009 Postal Holidays, which also includes service schedules for UPS and FedEx.

Monday, May 25 is Memorial Day 2009, and while banks, the post office, and many other businesses will be closed (nearly all Chiropractors I know take the Memorial Day holiday off) for the holiday, major department stores like Target and Walmart are open. So, Monday is a day off from the chiropractic office, but expect the outlet stores, department stores, and major retail chains to have Memorial Day sale specials throughout the weekend.
Some major events taking place across the nation include the 2009 Jones Beach Air Show (jonesbeachairshow.com), the Los Angeles Marathon (woo hoo I’ll be there!), a Memorial Day Parade in New York City, a Parade along Constitution Ave in Washington DC, as well as parades and ceremonies throughout the nation.
If you live on Long Island, the Air Show is a great weekend outing. This year’s air show will feature the USAF Thunderbirds as well as some of the top civilian and military aerobatic performers performing today.
The Washington DC 2009 Memorial Day Parade starts at 2pm on Monday, May 25th, 2009. The parade route is along Constitution Avenue, right next to the National Mall. Visit the official National Memorial Day Parade site for route maps, and other details.
What stores are open on Memorial Day? Most major department stores like Walmart and Target are open Monday. Be sure to check locally before you head out in traffic though. To find the WalMart store nearest you, go to the Wal-Mart website and look for the store finder at the top of the site (it’s right next to the WalMart logo). Enter a zip code to find local Wal-Mart stores. A great way to locate local Target holiday hours is to use the websites store locator. On this page, you can enter your zip code to find a Target store, and here you can view all Target stores in the United States (there are no Target stores in Hawaii or Vermont).
