Witness To Miracles

By Sid Mouk, D.C.

Do we actually believe what we tell our patients? Do we truly believe chiropractic care is something that everyone needs during their entire lives (“from the womb to the tomb” – as Dr. Jim Parker used to say)? Do we really believe that all of us in this profession are “called” to be Healers, “ordained” by the universe to serve our fellow man? If not, perhaps we need to have our beliefs adjusted before we do anything else in chiropractic!

Adjustment of our belief system is the most important type of adjustment we can ever receive, or give to others. Attending the many excellent philosophy seminars that are offered in this profession is a great way to adjust our belief system and regular attendance will practically guarantee a complete transformation in our beliefs. Then we can all go out into the world (like the early chiropractors did) and offer a service to suffering humanity that cannot be duplicated anywhere, one that everyone needs.

When we have a powerful belief system, “witnessing” to others becomes not a chore that we have to do but, instead, something that we simply can’t not do. It is something that is a vital part of our healing mission on this planet. Down here in Baton Rouge, we hear a lot about “witnessing.” This is the home of the Jimmy Swaggart TV Ministry and various other large ministries that “send out the message” to millions of people every year and successfully convert many thousands of people to their ideas of religion. No matter what you may think of these ministries, you have to admit that they do communicate strongly held beliefs to the multitudes and these beliefs are put forth without compromise or fear of what “others” might think. The idea of comparing chiropractic to religion probably turns off many DC’s, but perhaps there’s a lesson here for all of us in this profession. If we have a message that we truly believe is of vital importance to all people everywhere we’ll develop an inner drive to “witness” to that message in every way possible, without compromise.

The most successful chiropractors are always the ones who do the most effective job of “witnessing” to the people who are most in need of their healing. They are the ones who are fearless in telling the story of the miracles of chiropractic. They “spread the word” to the huge majority of the population that desperately need chiropractic but are misinformed about it or, even worse, don’t even know it exists. One of my “formerly skeptical” patients who received wonderful results with a chronic health problem recently asked me “what do all those sick people out there do without chiropractic care?” The only answer I could give her was, “they suffer for years and finally, in desperation, take dangerous prescription drugs to try to alleviate their pain and suffering (or, as a patient who, in the past, had severe sciatica once told me, “I drank myself into a stupor every night so I could get a little relief from the terrible pain in my leg.”)

As Healers, we have accepted an obligation to the people of this world to “spread the word” of the healing miracles that take place in this profession everyday. The people have a right to know this and if we don’t tell them who will? This means speaking to groups of our own patients and to those who are not yet fortunate enough to be chiropractic patients, writing about chiropractic healing miracles in newsletters and articles, getting this message out to millions through the Internet, debating those who still defend the often archaic practices of the medical profession, and telling every person we meet about the wonders of chiropractic healing.

If we truly believe, how can we possibly do any less and still sleep at night? We have an obligation to do this that we accepted when we became a chiropractor. Not everyone is ready for this message but our job is to tell the story and let the universe do the rest. Studies by Dr. Jim Parker over a 50 year period showed that 80% of the people who hear this message will accept it and act upon it (his 80-10-10 rule). If 8 of every 10 people we encounter accept and use this life-saving message, we will all have to keep our offices open 24 hours a day just to begin to meet the overwhelming demand for Chiropractic care.

Forget Managed Care. It’s just another political maneuver to control and limit this profession. It hasn’t worked in the past and it won’t work now. It’s up to us to spread the word to the people about the miracles of chiropractic. Mother Teresa said, “Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person.” Then we won’t need Managed care or insurance companies. We can bring millions of new patients to our offices by “witnessing” and teaching our patients to “witness.” This new century can truly become the “Golden Age” of Chiropractic.

When we become a HEALER, we no longer have to make ourselves go out and tell people about the wonders of chiropractic. We are so thrilled with the privilege of being a HEALER that it’s just a matter of how we tell the world about chiropractic, not if we tell the world. It’s a vital part of our mission on this planet to do this. Our mission (that we all accepted on some level eons ago) is to Heal and to act as a witness to the Healing miracles of the universe. It is an obligation that accompanies the privilege of being a HEALER and a member of this “chosen” profession. When we do this, how can Managed Care (or anything else) affect our practice? It can’t.

If it is still affecting us at this time, the universe is simply telling us to “go back to school” and learn to become a HEALER, our education is incomplete. When Managed Care no longer affects our practice in any way, we’ll know we have become a HEALER and not just a doctor — and nothing can ever adversely affect our practice again. Amen!

“Witness” in all ways — always!
