The term wellness is becoming common and being used by many holistic care groups to describe the type of care they are offering. In an effort to better understand its definition, I looked it up in various dictionaries. Merriam Webster defines wellness as “the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal.” From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I read, “Wellness is generally used to mean a healthy balance of the mind-body and spirit that results in an overall feeling of well-being… In other words, wellness is a view of health that emphasizes the state of the entire being and its ongoing development.”

Controversy surrounding the prescription stimulant medication Adderall has been in the press frequently this past week. Adderall, a prescription amphetamine, typically prescribed for children and adults with ADHD, is becoming more popular for its off label uses. Among the many side effects for those taking Adderall, a decrease in appetite, insomnia, increased anxiety and irritability are all potentials.

Autism recovery teams include chiropractors

Autism is a modern tragedy that has cruelly transformed the normal joys of family life into heartbreaking trials for the moms, dads, sisters and brothers of an estimated 560,000 children in the United States. A new report from the CDC tells us one child in 150 has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), up from one child in 10,000 twenty years ago. The spectrum includes neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD/ADD, Asperger’s Syndrome, speech delay, developmental delay and learning disabilities.

Crystal meth not good for babies

US scientists have recently published a report with findings that babies can be exposed to methamphetamine or “crystal meth” while in the womb. The study, published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood, involved analysis of hair samples by researchers who determined that crystal meth is able to cross the placenta directly to the developing fetus.
