NBC Studios leaving Burbank

By Michael Dorausch, D.C.

I was reading the Los Angeles Times today and I read that NBC studios would be leaving downtown Burbank and moving their operations to a new facility located at Universal City, in Los Angeles. I used to live just across the street (on Alameda) from where the Tonight Show is filmed and I happened to pass by NBC Studios this past Sunday, on my way home from a visit to Burbank. I had noticed that some restaurants had changed ownership and things appeared like business as usual over at NBC.

I checked out related news articles online and most of them talked about shows that have been filmed on the lot such as Hollywood Squares, Access Hollywood, and the KNBC local news station. None of the articles I saw talked about the effect the studio property move would have on the local Burbank business community. There are a number of restaurants located all around the NBC Burbank lots, no doubt this move will affect them. I know of several Burbank chiropractic offices as well as a few in the Studio City and Universal City area.

The new NBC West Coast broadcasting facilities are expected to be high-tech and green, and will centralize operations, making the studios more accessible by transportation methods such as the metro line subway rail.

It’s early to say how local chiropractic offices will be affected by such a move, but it could be devastating to clinics that relied on income from sources such as motion picture health and welfare unions, the Screen Actors Guild, and the Writers Guild. I’ll be speaking this weekend to a few chiropractors in the local Burbank/North Hollywood area and I’ll get their thoughts on the situation.
