Edgework Exploring Dynamics of Vision and Posture
University of Bridgeport, College of Chiropractic
Key QuestionIs your practice ready for the revolution in education?
Brain-based learning is rapidly gaining support from a variety of disciplines. Sensory integration is viewed as
the central theme to many of the proposed reforms in the way students are evaluated and taught. How can DC's help?
Course Overview
The integrity of the relationship between vision and posture determines the conversational tone of the nervous system. It has been estimated that 90% of the brain's sensory input comes from visual sources. Even 20% of posture is associated with vision. The most powerful influences on learning potential are concrete, vivid images. Enhanced clarity, creativity and insight have been associated with a posturally modulated phenomenon called cortical facilitation. The confluence of other related systems, ranging from vagal and frontolimbic activity to the architecture of the retina itself, help us distinguish memory from experience. After a review of related clinical concepts, a series of group exercises will be used to illustrate these axioms. Attendees' practice the concepts presented.
The course laces theory and application to produce six "stand alone" skills that trigger greater bionomic adaptation (efficient attention to self and surroundings) in the attendee. The system uses a cybernetic design to construct an accessible starting point for both practitioner and client to share in the process. These skills help shift the "order parameters" within the living system that emerges from doctor-client interaction. A greater sensitivity develops.
Course Objective
Edgework consists of developing six interactive skills designed to help students and practitioners study, learn and master the somatic and ocular profiles within 13 common eye disorders seen in clinical practice. These skills are rooted in our developmental neurobiology and can be passed on to clients as a new service as the era of health education begins to take root in your community.
Class times are typically Saturday 1pm-7pm and Sunday 8am-2pm.
