Community Saddened by loss of Local Chiropractor

From the Miller Press

The Miller community, as well as the South Dakota health care community, is mourning the loss of Dr. Ernest Wayne Carr, who passed away October 13, 2003, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.

Dr. Carr was committed to his patients and served the community of Miller in many capacities, including mayor and city alderman. Much of the following information was taken from an article The Miller Press ran in 1999 honoring one of Dr. Carr’s career accomplishments. Our sympathies are extended to his family in their time of sorrow.

At 16, E.W. “Wayne” Carr faced an indeterminate future after being paralyzed from the waist down due to a football injury. For several weeks his parents and local doctors struggled to help the young athlete, who feared he might never walk again. It was then suggested that Wayne be taken to the local chiropractor, Dr. Ray Medek, in what turned out to be a pivotal moment in the young man’s life.

Wayne recalled being hauled to the clinic by his dad and brothers on a stretcher made of blankets. “Dr. Medek popped my back and I walked out of there. That’s when I decided I wanted to be a chiropractor.”
