PURPOSE

Lead and manage the department congruent with the vision and mission of the institution. Ensure quality of education by assessing and managing the courses and curriculum within the department and across the college. Work with other institutional leaders to ensure that the departmental and clinical program expectations and outcomes are aligned. The Chair of Philosophy and Technique has responsibility for all classes under the Department. The Chair monitors course content and assessment of student learning and teaching effectiveness. The chair has responsibility for the staffing and evaluation of Philosophy and Technique Department courses and faculty.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Faculty supervision:
To monitor and evaluate faculty compliance with contractual responsibilities.
To meet regularly with individual faculty members.
To assess for continuous improvement through course and faculty evaluation.
To assist with faculty development including the adoption and use of current campus technologies.
To serve as an intermediary in the resolution of student/faculty conflict.
To recruit, hire, orient, and mentor highly qualified faculty for the department.

EDUCATIONAL MISSION:

Instruction of philosophy and/or technique courses, (department chairs have teaching assignments up to ten hours per week)
To hold regular department meetings.
Develop and maintain department level mission and outcomes that are aligned with the college mission and goals.
To assist with special projects that relate to the objectives of the department.
Participates in assessment of departmental objectives.
Based on outcomes assessment, develop and implement action plans.
Facilitate the intentional integration of co-curricular systems within the college
Administrative duties:
To facilitate communication between faculty, students, and administrators.
Serve on the Academic Planning Group and Curriculum Committee.
Coordinate with Health Center administration to ensure that the content and expectations of the department and the clinical experience are congruent.
Maintain department files where copies of all correspondence specific to the department are kept.
To participate in ongoing institutional self-study process.
Responsible to coordinate the maintenance of equipment and materials available for use in the classrooms.
Academic Advising
Participate in the strategic planning process of the institution.
To administer the LCCW weekly seminar program.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the OAA in the development of the quarterly schedule.
Report monthly on department activities.
Assist VPAA with development and management of department budget.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and/or Experience
Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) required
Seven years equivalent teaching experience
Associate Rank or equivalent experience
Minimum of five years of practice experience for DCs
Business or academic leadership experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

Strong analytical and organizational skills

Ability to manage and delegate multiple and varied tasks with frequent high levels of urgency or sensitivity
Ability to work collaboratively and foster strong team environment
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
