Kinesio Taping is a corrective taping technique that incorporates a proprietary tape. According to the manufacturer, Kinesio tape has no chemicals or medication in it, it is a mechanical tape. Kinesio Taping Seminars are taking place at the Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCUHS) the weekend of July 17 and July 18. Early bird registration is $499 (by June 18) and regular registration is $549 (by July 2). The event is taught by a certified kinesio taping instructor and certified athletic trainer.

Southern California University of Health Sciences Board of Regents Appoints John Scaringe as President. Southern California University of Health Sciences’ Board of Regents announced the appointment of John Scaringe, DC as the university’s President, effective May 8, 2010. Dr. Scaringe had previously been serving in the role of Interim President of SCU since August 2009.

Chronic low back pain is a plague on America, and when it comes to its treatment, there is a long laundry list of therapies and approaches people rely on. A recent study published in the May issue of The Archives of Internal Medicine suggests that acupuncture is an effective treatment for chronic low back pain. However, the study noted an unusual finding, that penetration of the skin with needles was not required, in order for people to report improvement. Turns out acupuncture can be added to the long list of uses for the common toothpick.
