McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy (MDT) is one of the most widely utilized and effective assessment and treatment methods for mechanical neck and back pain but hasn’t been widely available to the chiropractic profession.  This recently changed as the Institute approved a new Branch specifically for chiropractors.

McKenzie Method is the only manual care technique listed as “Recommended” for the treatment of neck and low back pain in the Official Disability Guidelines (ODG), which Workers Compensation boards utilize.  Currently, no named chiropractic technique is listed.

McKenzie is the largest spine care / rehabilitation referral network in the world.  Once credentialed*, a provider is automatically included in the network.  Currently, there are fewer than 70 DCs included worldwide.

McKenzie is well-known and accepted throughout the medical community which in turn can help a DC market their practice to those professions.

McKenzie Method focuses on accurately classifying a patient’s neck and back pain condition beyond their primary musculoskeletal outcomes.  This then allows a DC to introduce active care rehabilitation earlier in the patient’s treatment, which can demonstrate even further value to third party payers.

With patients that are in too much pain or have contraindications to being adjusted, McKenzie Method offers safe and effective treatment protocols.

There is far less physical stress to a DC utilizing McKenzie Method in comparison to other spinal or extremity techniques.  This helps to protect a DC’s shoulders, low back, wrists and thumbs.

*Credentialing in Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy (MDT) involves completion of Courses A-D and successful passing of the credentialing exam.  Individuals must be licensed and in clinical practice before being eligible to sit for the examination.

Course Highlights

Attendees gain valuable experience as patients with actual neck and low back conditions are assessed and treated in the courses by an expert in McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy.  Courses attendees not only observe these patients encounters but are also invited to participate.

Each course includes a significant amount of hands-on training (both assessment & treatment).

Attendees receive a printed manual, McKenzie assessment forms to use in clinical practice, a McKenzie Lumbar roll and relevant research articles.

By the end of Parts A & B, the attendee will gain:

-a greater understanding of mechanical neck and low back pain

-the ability to assess and treat neck, low back and radicular pain with greater confidence

-the foundation to classify and determine a directional preference for the patient’s mechanical conditions

Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing conducive for exercise for the practical portions of the course.
