MD’s are concerned about chiropractors seeing children

From Yahoo news comes the headline: “Children’s chiropractic care raises questions”

The April 19th article which appears on yahoo news is one more example of the increased surge this paradigm shift in healthcare has taken in just the past 6 months.

The article states, “Children make up a substantial portion of chiropractic patients in the United States, making an estimated 30 million visits each year.”

The article discusses a new report that questions the safety and effectiveness of chiropractic care for children. Not so surprisingly, the report is from a team of researchers in the medical field.

A wonderful quote from the article is that, “Pediatric chiropractic care is often inconsistent with recommended medical guidelines.” I would suggest taking that further and state that chiropractic care is absolutely inconsistent with medical guidelines. What use are medical guidelines to a profession that does not practice medicine? Chiropractic is a separate and distinct healing art. We have our own guidelines, thank you.

According to the article, a survey suggested that 11% of visits to the chiropractor were for children.

What was of great concern in the article, was chiropractors attitudes towards immunizations. (We mentioned this last week, there is a coming surge from the medical pediatric profession to attack chiropractors publicly as the reason so many are questioning the safety and effectiveness of vaccination.)

By far the greatest statement made in the article was this: “These issues raise great concern as more and more children and families seek chiropractic care, particularly if the care is not coordinated with a pediatrician.”

More and more children and families are seeking chiropractic care. Let’s look at it this way, the world is coming into chiropractic offices for family wellness care and is rapidly discovering that chiropractic is the number one health care profession that promotes and establishes well-being in humankind.

At the same time, the world is beginning to question the safety and effectiveness of vaccination. This is a completely separate issue from chiropractic but the medics will not see it that way. Fortunately, the public does.

So, if chiropractic has become the first choice for families that want optimal health and many of those same families have chosen not to vaccinate their children, where does that leave the pediatrician?

Not mentioned in the article was that, “for many families in the United States, chiropractic care is no longer an alternative, but an integral part of regular health care” as stated in the pediatric journal.

The complete research article is available in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine 2000 issue.
