2009 LA Marathon Start Time and Guide

The 24th Los Angeles Marathon takes place Monday, May 25, 2009. Like many marathons we've covered in the past, we researched what runners and spectators most commonly seek, and have organized a basic guide to start times, maps & routes, live TV & Internet coverage, along with other details related to the Los Angeles Marathon 2009 (LA Marathon XXIV).

The 24th Los Angeles Marathon takes place Monday, May 25, 2009. Like many marathons we’ve covered in the past, we researched what runners and spectators most commonly seek, and have organized a basic guide to start times, maps & routes, live TV & Internet coverage, along with other details related to the Los Angeles Marathon 2009 (LA Marathon XXIV).

24th LA Marathon – Monday, May 25, 2009 The Los Angeles Marathon race distance is 26 miles, 385 yards (42.195 Kilometers). Most importantly, registration for the 2009 Los Angeles Marathon is closed, and an estimated 15,000 runners are entered. The Start Line for the LA Marathon is located at 5th St & Figueroa St. There will be three starting corrals for the race. One for the Elites & wheelchairs, one for sub 4-hour runners who have pre-qualified, and the primary corral for runners and walkers, all located at 5th Street and Figueroa Street.

Los Angeles Marathon Start Time — Wheelchair start time is 6:55am and Hand Cycle start time is 7:00am. Los Angeles Marathon start for Elite Women is scheduled at 7:07 a.m. After the elite women start, there will be a 16:57 delay and then elite men and the remaining full field will run.

2009 Los Angeles Marathon Finish Line — The LA Marathon finish line is at 5th Street & Flower Street. Runners should disperse across all lanes leading into the finish. After you cross the finish line, do not stop until you’ve reached the Finisher Medal Area. Access to the Finish Line is restricted to runners and race officials only. A Friends and Family Reunion Area is at 3rd St & Flower St.

Los Angeles Marathon Map — Like events we’ve seen in the past, the LA Marathon site will likely get a lot of traffic on race day so try and download a course map in case the website is not accessible at times during race day. Here is a down-loadable 2009 Los Angeles Marathon Course Map in jpg format. If the map does not load in your browser, try right clicking the link to “save file as” and see if you can save it locally on your computer. Los Angeles Marathon Route — The 2009 marathon course starts on 5th St & Figueroa St in downtown Los Angeles. The course continues on Figueroa and involves many of the following streets: Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Vermont Boulevard, Exposition Boulevard, Crenshaw Blvd., Venice Blvd., La Cienega, Pico, Olympic Boulevard, Sixth Street, Third Street, and a finish line on Flower Avenue. Los Angeles Marathon Live Coverage — Local NBC station KNBC (channel 4 in Los Angeles) has 2009 Los Angeles Marathon Live televised coverage and you can follow their Twitter feed (twitter.com/nbclosangeles) for marathon related details. For radio listeners there will be a live Radio Broadcast provided by KABC.

Los Angeles Marathon on Twitter — Follow the LA Marathon (lamarathon) for Los Angeles Marathon News tweets. For those of you familiar with Twitter, use #lamarathon hashtags and search LA Marathon OR Los Angeles Marathon for continuous live online updates (and likely many user generated posted Los Angeles Marathon Photos and TwitPics).

Los Angeles Marathon Live Online — Besides the local KNBC TV coverage, visit Universal Sports live race day coverage to watch the 2009 Los Angeles Marathon Live Online. Live online marathon coverage begins at 7am Pacific standard Time and is not restricted to Los Angeles web viewers, as the coverage from Universal is available globally.
