The photo of the week for today was taken at a Parker Seminars chiropractic event in Las Vegas Nevada. The photo features a chiropractor serving another. Patients frequently ask “who adjusts you?” or “do you get adjusted?” In my case, the answer is a resounding yes. Most chiropractors I know receive regular chiropractic care.
Chiropractor serving Chiropractic Adjustment
In the case of this photograph, the chiropractor may only be checking the individual’s spine or demonstrating an adjustment for thoracic anteriorities. I find it interesting when I talk to other chiropractors about their schedule of chiropractic care. Those that work in offices with other chiropractors have an easy opportunity to receive care regularly.
In Los Angeles, I know several chiropractors that work as solo practitioners. We all visit the offices of other chiropractors to receive our adjustments. In my experience, I have found that going through what a patient goes through (finding parking, sitting in the reception area, lying face down waiting to be adjusted) makes for better chiropractic care. Going to the chiropractor is a huge added hidden bonus of being chiropractor.
If you are a patient or practice member of a chiropractor, asking them who adjusts them and how often they get adjusted is a great question, it keeps them on their toes. If chiropractic is about helping one function at an optimal level, and your chiropractor is not receiving regular chiropractic care, is it possible you are not getting 100% from your adjustment?
Chiropractor Joe Tichio recently authored a book titled Greatest Inspirational Quotes – 365 days to more happiness, success, and motivation. Dr. Joe sent a copy to Planet Chiropractic and I have to say I love the book. It is easy to read and it features quotes that can offer inspiration to nearly anyone.
Greatest Inspirational Quotes – 365 days to more happiness, success, and motivation by Dr. Joe Tichio. In the books introduction Dr. Joe mentions that “it has always amazed me how powerful words can be.” It is no coincidence that one of the most popular posts on Chiropractic Blogs is 101 Words That Feel Good. Dr. Joe tells us that in his chiropractic office he has often shared inspirational quotes with patients to lift their spirits and help them refocus on the positive.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness
Dr. Joe feels that inspirational quotes are so effective because they are isolated piece of information, not muddled or diluted by surrounding words or sentences. He says that there is no context to the quote, other than the context of your life. This allows them to speak directly to your situation and act as powerful catalysts with life-changing possibilities.
The book features a collection of quotes that Dr. Joe uses and loves, he mentions that the quotes have been influential in his life and he wants them to have a positive impact on your life as well. His recommended method of reading this book is to take a 365 day journey and read one quote at a time. His intention is that reading quotes one per day will allow them to take root deep in your spirit and express their hidden power.
I really like that there is a reader’s guide on how to get the most out of the book, since I have found that reading quotes can act as a tool for increasing positive vibration in your life. I will not share the first quote in the book, you’ll have to get a copy of your own and read it, it’s terrific.
Here are some selected quotes from Greatest Inspirational Quotes…
Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do. – Benjamin Spock
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. – Martin Luther King Jr.
Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened. – Dr. Seuss
When you don’t know what you believe, everything becomes an argument. Everything is debatable. But when you stand for something, decisions are obvious. – Jason Fried
Courage is never to let your actions be influenced by your fears. – Arthur Koestler
Dr. Joe tells us he has been collecting inspirational quotes for more than 15 years. He created a website greatest-inspirational-quotes.com to share amazing quotes and help inspire others to live happy, successful, and empowered lives. He is a chiropractor, rock climber, and speaker on topics including wellness, inspiration, and personal development.
I love that I now have a paperback copy of the book, I can read a positive inspirational quote first thing in the morning on my back patio each day, but I’m also happy to see there’s a Greatest Inspirational Quotes Kindle edition available on Amazon.com. Not an affiliate link.
You can order the book on Amazon.com, or visit Dr. Joseph’s inspirational quote website and order the book directly from there. Dr. Joe’s book reminds me of a long time ago post from Dr. James Sigafoose regarding your conscious mind and change. Dr. Sigafoose says that as we maintain our discipline of thot we will continue to prosper and all will take care of itself. I have found that reading positive quotes daily is a great way to start.

Today’s photo of the week features a massive sign that appeared at the Orange County Performing Arts Center for the very first DCS California Jam. Years later, it seems every chiropractor on the planet is aware of Dr. Billy Demoss and the DCS movement, which came out of Orange County California. The sign turned out to be a good investment.
DCS California Jam Neon Sign
The very first California Jam took place in Orange County (Costa Mesa) on Saturday, April 26, 2008. I can remember being at a Schofield Chiropractic Training with Dr. Billy DeMoss and Mary Jane talking about ways to promote the very first DCS mega event. Billy was on fire (as he often is) and it’s beyond spectacular to see the wave of fresh chiropractic energy that has been flowing out of Southern California ever since.
The very first Cal Jam featured Dr. Rob Schiffman, Dr. James Chestnut, Dr. Brian Porteous, Dr. Monika Buerger, Dr. Eric Plasker, Dr. Patrick Gentempo, Dr. Don Harte, Dr. Dennis Nikitow, Dr. Ben Lerner, and Dr. Fred Schofield. There’s quite a few DCS related news articles on Planet Chiropractic. Something noticeable in 2013 is how so many other chiropractic conferences have copied what has worked at DCS. The music has gotten louder and there’s a lot more “letting the hair down” at chiropractic events.
The photograph of the sign doesn’t really do it justice. If you’ve been in attendance at DCS California Jam you know what I’m talking about. The sign is massive, and it’s just freaking cool. Thank goodness for people like the DeMoss family being in chiropractic.

This week’s chiropractic photo of the week was taken on March 14th, 2001 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, during the “Internet World” conference. The photo features keynote speaker Barry Diller and Chiropractor Michael Dorausch (that’s me).
Barry Diller and Chiropractor Michael Dorausch
At the time, Barry Diller was CEO of USA Networks. I was a chiropractor practicing in downtown Los Angeles where we also had an office for Planet Chiropractic. The building, located on Spring Street and now converted into condominiums, hosted around 48 tech companies during the first dot com boom. We were located within walking distance to the Staples Center/Los Angeles Convention Center and lots of people from our office building were in attendance for the Internet World conference.
Barry Diller spoke about convergence, the entertainment industry, and the tech industry. There was something like 50,000 people expected to attend Internet World that spring week of March 2001. The exhibit halls featured around 500 vendors, and there was an equal amount of speakers, covering all sorts of topics related to the Internet. As I recall, the conference had a very different energy from the years prior, with 2001 being the first West Coast Spring Internet World post dot com bubble bursting. I believe there were five full days of sessions related to everything Internet, I no longer have my notes from Barry Diller’s keynote, but it was inspiring to attend.
The next Dynamic Essentials is taking place in Atlanta Georgia the first weekend of August, 2013. I attended my first Dynamic Essentials (DE) event when I was a chiropractic student in Los Angeles. Attending DE had a significant impact on my future in chiropractic. To this day, I keep a book “From the Ordinary to the Extraordinary and Chiropractic” by Dr. Sid Williams on my desk, and I reread it regularly. Dynamic Essentials is on my list of must attend chiropractic events for summer 2013. The following comes from the DE staff via e-mail. I’m sharing it to spread the word.
Polly Want a Cracker?
Dynamic Essentials can open the golden gate allowing you to bridge the departmentalized concepts in chiropractic. Those who have attended DE are not bogged down with big overheads. They are conducting their practice from their inner power, which allows them to care for hundreds of patients a week with four or five assistants and perhaps one associate. A DE meeting concentrates solely in bringing you in tune with the inner power within yourself.
A young future chiropractor checks the spine of DE speaker Dr. Dean Sottille.
DE is not like other seminars where a diversified group of people each presents their own concepts. DE teaches you that YOU have YOUR OWN bag. DE strips the facade, peals the misconceptions of chiropractic that you may have, gets right down to the marrow of your bones, into your inner being (innate) so that the debris in your consciousness may be cleansed, allowing a full flow of love and well being to burst forth into a gusher of increasing life.
Those attending a DE meeting share a spirit of chiropractic camaraderie that can be experienced no other place on the face of the earth. DE principles imbue you with the power and positiveness to conduct a highly successful practice in office procedure, patient relations, and clinical techniques.
DE instills a commitment within you that you are a doctor of the highest esteem. By attending DE you will come into awareness of a positive attitude in relationship to chiropractic-that you are THE PRIMARY health provider, second to no one.
Renew your faith in yourself. Once you have attended a DE meeting, you will have a successful practice like the thousands of other people who have acquired the secrets of DE. DE is not a one-shot motivating course. It keeps you in tune with your inner self and then from this power within you become a motivator FOR OTHERS. Don’t allow yourself, like so many chiropractors have, who squander their energy by being negative. Taking a parrot-like attitude – “Polly wants a cracker, Polly wants a cracker” – you may end up with the cracker, but you’ll find it takes all your energy to clean up the crumbs.
In DE we don’t have Polly-want-a-cracker people. DE is a seven-course meal. We have our crackers within our soup. Our dessert is the realization that within us lays the power. Bring your CA’s, spouses and children to the next DE meeting. Let them share the feast with you. Phone Melba today (770)438-9949 to register or go online to www.lifede.com for the August 1-4 DE meeting. We look forward to seeing you there.
“Believe… intensely believe in your ultimate success” – Dr. Sid E. Williams
You know it’s summer when local parents all bring their kids in on the same morning for a chiropractic adjustment. While kids are out of school and excited to have some summer fun, chiropractors will be having summer fun of their own, and hopefully including their families on a few chiropractic centered vacations. I have put together a list of summer chiropractic seminars and events that should not be missed. Choose one, or several, and get reconnected with your colleagues.
Atlas lager, the beer of choice for chiropractors that choose to drink beer
The first event takes place this week at Logan College of Chiropractic in Chesterfield, Missouri. Sponsored by the Logan Alumni Association, the 2013 Logan Homecoming takes place June 13th through 16th. The event features 28 hours of continuing education available, along with presentations from chiropractors such as Dr. Dan Murphy, Dr. James George, Dr. Cheryl Hawk, Dr. Donna Mannello, Dr. Jeff Kamper, and others. There is also an annual golf tournament taking place on Thursday. Check the Logan Homecoming and Midwest Conference page for details.
Chiropractors Joseph Lupo and Hank Cousineau at Life University
Make plans to visit Atlanta Georgia in July for the Life Vision Seminar taking place on July 26 and 27 (Saturday and Sunday). The event is at the Cobb Galleria Centre, and it features a long list of spectacular chiropractic speakers. Expect to see Dr. Jim Dubel, Dr. James Sigafoose, Dr. Sharon Gorman, Dr. Guy Riekeman, Dr. Ray Omid, Dr. Eric Plasker, Dr. Andy Forelli, Dr. Hank Cousineau, Dr. Chuck Ribley, Dr. Patti Ribley, Dr. Jay Handt, and several others. This will be a high energy, high impact, inspirational chiropractic event. Get more information on the Life Vision Seminar page.
August is when things are going to really get hot. There’s three magnificent chiropractic seminars taking place the first weekend of August in the cities of San Francisco, Atlanta, and Phoenix (where it will literally be hot). First let’s check out the 2013 Life West Wave taking place in San Francisco.
Chiropractors Brian Kelly and Tim Gay at Life West Wave
The Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport Hotel is the location for the 2013 Life West Wave taking place on August 1 through August 3. This is the third year Life Chiropractic College West has held its wave event (view previous Life West Wave posts and photos), and the lineup of speakers is stupendous. There will be keynotes from Marianne Williamson, Patch Adams and Andrew Wakefield, along with chiropractic speakers such as Dr. Gerry Clum, Dr. Rhea Zimmerman, Dr. Dean DePice, Dr. David Fletcher, Dr. Tim Gay, Dr. David Butters, Dr. Sharon Gorman, Dr. Brad Glowaki, Dr. Dennis Perman, Dr. Fred Schofield, Dr. Frank Sovinsky, and several others.
Chiropractors Sharon Gorman and Jay Handt
You may have already noticed that several chiropractic speakers are speaking at multiple events, for many, spreading the word of chiropractic is a full-time job. Dr. Fred Schofield is speaking at the Life West Wave on Friday morning, and then getting on a plane to Phoenix for the mega hot 2013 August Schofield Chiropractic Training. This year’s August training takes place at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel (one of my favorites in Phoenix) and you can register by calling Schofield Chiropractic Training directly at 800-554-3260. The Arizona Biltmore Chiropractic Seminar is on August 2 and August 3 (Friday and Saturday). I will be speaking on Saturday and look forward to seeing you there. I’m also really excited to be hanging out with some of the greatest chiropractors on the planet.
Chiropractors Fred Schofield and Michael Dorausch
But that’s not all, I mentioned there were 3 chiropractic seminars all taking place on the same weekend. All three are rich and chiropractic philosophy, and I really hope you’re attending one of them. In Atlanta Georgia it’s the 2013 August Dynamic Essentials taking place on August 1 through August 4 at the Atlanta Embassy Suites Hotel. It’s a Magnificent Bonfire of Love at Dynamic Essentials, and DE is the place to be. Get more information on the Dynamic Essentials Atlanta Georgia seminars page for August 2013.
It’s certainly possible for a chiropractor to travel to Missouri in June, Atlanta in July, and then onto San Francisco, Phoenix, or Atlanta again in August. But how about a mid August visit mile high in Colorado? The chiropractic lovefest continues with a mile high chiropractic philosophy weekend taking place in Denver Colorado the weekend of August 16 at August 17 (Friday and Saturday). This is why chiropractors love to take three-day weekends out of the office.
The Mile High Chiropractic Philosophy Weekend features chiropractic speakers such as Dr. Daniel Knowles (founder of the Mile High Movement), Dr. Steve Visentin, Dr. Donald Epstein, Bill Esteb, Dr. Janice Hughes, Dr. Lyle Koca, Dr. Dennis Nikitow, Dr. Liam Schubel and others. The event takes place at the Westin Westminster Hotel in Denver Colorado. Come get your chiropractic on with high-altitude and attitude. I’m fired up just writing about the event. Get more details on the Mile High Chiropractic Philosophy Weekend seminar page and click through to visit the website for online registration.
Wherever you choose to go, put a charge of chiropractic spizzerinctum in your life, and have an amazing summer!
California Chiropractor Brian Stenzler in San Diego
Dr. Brian Stenzler has been extremely active in the state of California, both as a chiropractor, and in a leadership role at the CCA. He is a past president of the CCA San Diego and currently sits on the executive board for the California Chiropractic Association. Dr. Brian is a 1998 graduate of Life University in Marietta Georgia. He currently practices in Del Mar and Pacific Beach California.
Chiropractor Patrick Gentempo
Dr. Patrick Gentempo was one of the chiropractors I had been listening to during my daily commute to chiropractic school in the 1990s. Sitting in traffic an hour each way provided an opportunity to listen to Dr. Patrick and Dr. Christopher Kent talk to me about chiropractic (via way of audio cassettes). Just yesterday I posted a photograph of Dr. Kent and how he would have likely looked at Palmer in 1973. I am incredibly grateful for the chiropractors I’ve had in my life since the very beginning of my journey.
California Chiropractor Grace Syn with goodies for vendors
The annual CCA convention features free continuing education for chiropractors that are members of the organization. As everyone knows, continuing education isn’t actually free, it is subsidized by the vendors who sponsor the conference. In the above photo Dr. Grace Syn is carting out a whole bunch of goodies to be shared with conference vendors. I myself purchased two cases of protein bars while at the event, that were sent second day air to my office, great to have in our refrigerator so I can not be hungry and focus on adjusting patients.
North Hollywood Chiropractor Michael Blum
I was really glad to see North Hollywood chiropractor Dr. Michael Blum was in attendance. I had heard that a former employee of another chiropractor had recently started going to Dr. Blum’s office and she was raving about the care and attention she was receiving. Nice to share that with your colleagues when you see them. I feel confident Dr. Blum will provide great chiropractic care if there is anyone you want to send his way.
California Chiropractor Leslie Hewitt speaking at CCA
Danville chiropractor Leslie Hewitt has also been very active with the California Chiropractic Association. She’s the current leadership behind the CCA Conventions & Seminars Department, and she’s already at work planning the extravaganza for 2014 in San Diego. I’ve been really impressed with the continual improvement of CCA events during the past few years. Thanks to the chiropractors that have committed much time and energy to the mission, chiropractic in California is on the move.
Michael McLean – President of the International Chiropractors Association
For those of us that have been involved in the International Chiropractors Association in the state of California (I was a SICA president during my days at Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles), it’s terrific to see ICA leadership attending a CCA event. That is huge for the state of California and says a lot about the direction we are moving in. Congratulations to Dr. Michael Mclean on his recent nomination to the position of president of the ICA.
Time to get back to the office and rock this Friday afternoon. Wherever you are, hope you’re having a fantastic day. I plan to see you at a chiropractic conference sometime soon.
From left to right we have Drs. Peter Kevorkian, Tom Gelardi, and Liam Schubel. Dr. Tom Gelardi is the founder of Sherman Chiropractic College, and Drs. Peter Kevorkian and Liam Schubel are on the Board of Trustees. These are visionary chiropractors, and it’s great to see they can have some fun.
Cool Cats – Debbie and Dr. Ed Cordero
Speaking of having some fun, this photo features the coolest cats on the planet (especially on Planet Chiropractic), Debbie Cordero and Sherman President Dr. Ed Cordero. These two have amazing energy and they are a blast to hang out with, I’m already looking forward to Lyceum 2014.
Here’s three people that have had a profound impact on my life. From left to right we have Susan Schofield, Dr. Fred Schofield, and Irene Gold. This photo pretty much sums up success in chiropractic. Irene Gold can teach you everything there is to know about passing national boards (she’s helped thousands of chiropractors). Susan Schofield can teach you about running a successful high volume love-centered chiropractic office (she’s also helped thousands of chiropractors). Dr. Fred can teach you to calm that monkey mind of yours and remain focused on serving patients (he has helped thousands of chiropractors do so).
1973 version of Christopher Kent
When I was a chiropractic student sitting in Los Angeles traffic in the 1990s, I used to listen to cassette tapes (remember those?) of Dr. Christopher Kent and Dr. Patrick Gentempo doing interviews with chiropractors from around the world. I remember Dr. Kent once talking about how he had long hair when he attended Palmer College of Chiropractic and that he was quite the rebel. After taking this photo I thought this is probably what Dr. Kent looked like when he went to chiropractic college. Groovy!
Chiropractors having fun at 1970s Lyceum Party
I don’t know how popular Viking horns were in the 1970s, but along with the large black wigs (must have been a sale in downtown Spartenburg), I saw them several times at the party. In case you are wondering, people really had a lot of fun (that should be obvious from the pics). Having attended many chiropractic conferences throughout the years I have found events like this are great for freeing the mind and letting go into the future.
Drs. Patti Giuliano and Peter Kevorkian
Drs. Patti Giuliano and Peter Kevorkian are two amazing people. I believe I first met them at a New Beginnings in New Jersey many years ago. They are full of life and always a pleasure to be around. Their energy is magnetic. I took a photo earlier in the day of Patti during the Lunch on the Lawn event, along with a group of women that gathered for the League of Chiropractic Women (LCW). Fun wasn’t only had at the banquet, it was 4 days of fun during my time in South Carolina.
I didn’t get the names of these 3 ladies but they looked fabulous. Such great enthusiasm from students, faculty, administrators, board members, and the president. I’m thankful I was invited to attend.
There are many great opportunities for chiropractors seeking to practice chiropractic throughout the globe. One of the benefits I have at Planet Chiropractic is the opportunity to see what types of advertisements are being posted to our chiropractic classifieds multiple times per day. Yesterday it was my turn to approve current advertisements and I smiled when I saw 2 posted at nearly the exact same time. I took a screenshot.
experienced excited chiropractor classified
Chiropractic classified advertisements numbered 42352 and 42353 had appeared on the screen. Both ads were for successful chiropractic practices and both classifieds were placed by chiropractors I know well. The first was posted by Dr. Dan Ribley, a passionate chiropractor that I first met back in the 1990s when we were both taking the national boards. Dr. Ribley is looking for an experienced excited chiropractor that is ready to adjust lots of people at a great office.
Here’s the body of the listing from his Woodstock Georgia office…
Ready to adjust lots of people at a great office. We are looking to help change peoples lives and would like you to be a part of that. Positive uplifting practice to work in get mentored from a doctor who has seen as many as 1000 a week who has started a new practice and is looking for the right doctor to work with him. Only mission minded people call who have big dreams, who wants to do what they went to school for… change peoples lives we need that now more then ever in todays world. Must be a great confident adjuster with a great work ethic and attitude.
I am on the mission as well, serving people chiropractic in Los Angeles, so his ad really resonated with me. A fortunate chiropractor is going to have their life changed while changing the lives of others and I look forward to hearing your story when we meet.
Posted at nearly the exact same time, was a position opportunity for an associate Doctor of Chiropractic to work with Dr. Brian Wikoff. I also met Dr. Brian way back when I was a chiropractic student in the 1990s, Planet Chiropractic was in its early beginnings at that time and we didn’t yet offer classified ads (that came in 1999). Dr. Brian has been passionate about chiropractic since the day I first met him and he runs a successful family chiropractic practice in Santa Ana California.
These are only two chiropractor selected from numerous ads that get posted daily, and while I may be biased, I feel there is tremendous opportunity for chiropractors to connect with others and move forward with great success.
In 1998 I posted the following on the Planet Chiropractic about page… Planet Chiropractic was launched with the intent of connecting more chiropractors with their colleagues and to increase awareness and involvement in the worldwide chiropractic community.
Here’s to getting connected and staying connected!
